install-playwright-mcp

install-playwright-mcp is a skill for Claude Code from jamesyang124/agent-skills. It costs 49 tokens per session (752 once invoked), scanned A, original, MIT.

A setup tool for Playwright MCP, a connection that lets an agent control a web browser. It configures the agent to navigate pages, take screenshots, click controls, fill forms, and inspect network requests.

In plain words
What is it for?
Use it to set up browser-based web testing, inspect a website through real interactions, capture screenshots, or automate form and page workflows.
Why use it?
It removes the manual work of installing and configuring browser automation for Claude or GitHub Copilot. This gives the agent browser actions for testing or checking websites.

Token cost

What it costs to keep this loaded

Counted locally with the o200k_base tokenizer, which is exact for GPT models; Claude uses its own tokenizer and its counts differ. Treat this as one consistent yardstick across the catalogue rather than a bill. Prices are per million input tokens.

ModelPer sessionOnce invoked
Fable 5.1 $0.00049 $0.00752
Opus 5 $0.00024 $0.00376
Sonnet 5 $0.00010 $0.00150
Haiku 4.5 $0.00005 $0.00075

Security

Grade A, and why

install-playwright-mcp scanned grade A with 0 findings against 26 rules in 11 categories — prompt injection, anti-refusal, data exfiltration, privilege escalation, supply chain, agent snooping, system-prompt leakage, SSRF and excessive agency — measured 9d ago.

The scan reads SKILL.md. This mod also ships 1 executable file (scripts/install.sh), listed below but not scanned — reading those needs a real analyzer, not pattern matching.

A static scan of the body, not an audit. Every finding is printed with the line that produced it so you can judge whether it matters here. A mod is markdown that instructs an agent; that is exactly why what it instructs is worth reading.

Nothing flagged

None of the 26 patterns this scan looks for appear in this file: no shell pipes, no recursive deletes, no credential paths, no hidden text, no instruction-override or anti-refusal phrasing, no agent-config snooping. That is not a guarantee, it is the absence of the things that are checkable.

Arguments

All optional — anything not passed is asked in Step 1.

Token Meaning
claude / copilot which agent to configure
headed / headless browser mode (headed is the default)

Quick Start

Ask the user two questions, then run the bundled script.

Step 1 — Collect parameters

Use vscode_askQuestions with:

  1. agent — which agent to configure
    • options: claude, copilot
  2. mode — browser mode
    • options: headed (default, shows browser window), headless

Step 2 — Run the installer

Find this skill's directory from the SKILL.md path, then run:

PROJECT_ROOT="<workspace-root>" \
  bash .agent-settings/skills/tools/install-playwright-mcp/scripts/install.sh \
  --agent <agent> \
  [--headless]
  • Set PROJECT_ROOT to the user's current workspace folder
  • Add --headless only when the user chose headless mode
  • The script merges into any existing config file; it will not overwrite other servers

Step 3 — Confirm

Tell the user: Restart your agent to load Playwright MCP.

What Gets Written

Copilot (.vscode/mcp.json):

{
  "servers": {
    "playwright": {
      "command": "npx",
      "args": ["@playwright/mcp@latest"]
    }
  }
}

Changes

What this file has done since we first saw it

Hashed on every crawl. A supply-chain change to an agent config is a question of when, not whether, so the history is kept rather than the latest state alone.
