siri-shortcut-editing

siri-shortcut-editing is a skill for Claude Code from Jansen611/Agent-Skills. It costs 96 tokens per session (1,507 once invoked), scanned A, original, MIT.

A macOS workflow for decoding, editing, and re-signing Siri Shortcut files with the .shortcut extension.

In plain words
What is it for?
Use it to programmatically modify Siri Shortcuts by converting their workflow to XML and packaging it again.
Why use it?
It handles the encrypted archive, embedded workflow data, and signing steps that make direct editing difficult.

Token cost

What it costs to keep this loaded

Counted locally with the o200k_base tokenizer, which is exact for GPT models; Claude uses its own tokenizer and its counts differ. Treat this as one consistent yardstick across the catalogue rather than a bill. Prices are per million input tokens.

ModelPer sessionOnce invoked
Fable 5.1 $0.00096 $0.01507
Opus 5 $0.00048 $0.00754
Sonnet 5 $0.00019 $0.00301
Haiku 4.5 $0.00010 $0.00151

Security

Grade A, and why

siri-shortcut-editing scanned grade A with 0 findings against 26 rules in 11 categories — prompt injection, anti-refusal, data exfiltration, privilege escalation, supply chain, agent snooping, system-prompt leakage, SSRF and excessive agency — measured 11d ago.

The scan reads SKILL.md. This mod also ships 1 executable file (scripts/decode_shortcut.py), listed below but not scanned — reading those needs a real analyzer, not pattern matching.

A static scan of the body, not an audit. Every finding is printed with the line that produced it so you can judge whether it matters here. A mod is markdown that instructs an agent; that is exactly why what it instructs is worth reading.

Nothing flagged

None of the 26 patterns this scan looks for appear in this file: no shell pipes, no recursive deletes, no credential paths, no hidden text, no instruction-override or anti-refusal phrasing, no agent-config snooping. That is not a guarantee, it is the absence of the things that are checkable.

Siri Shortcut Editing Skill

Edit signed macOS Siri Shortcuts (.shortcut files) by decoding them to XML, making changes, and re-signing.

File Format

A .shortcut file is a signed Apple Encrypted Archive (AEA1) containing:

[0-3] "AEA1" magic
[4-7] zeros (reserved)
[8-11] plist length (uint32 LE)
[12-...] auth plist (bplist) — signing certificate chain
[after] CMS signature + encrypted payload (Apple Archive)

The actual shortcut workflow is a bplist inside the Apple Archive, named Shortcut.wflow.

Prerequisites

  • macOS with aea, aa, shortcuts CLI tools (all built-in)
  • plutil (built-in)
  • Python 3 with plistlib (built-in)

Verify:

which aea aa shortcuts plutil python3

Workflow: Decode .shortcut → XML

Use the bundled scripts/decode_shortcut.py:

python3 scripts/decode_shortcut.py INPUT.shortcut OUTPUT.xml

This script performs all three steps automatically:

  1. Extracts the signing certificate's public key from the AEA1 auth plist
  2. Decrypts the Apple Archive via aea decrypt -profile 0
  3. Locates the embedded bplist inside the decoded archive and converts to XML

If doing it manually, the steps are:

Step 1: Extract signing certificate public key

The first 12 bytes of a .shortcut file are the AEA1 header (magic + zeros + plist length as uint32 LE). The auth plist starts at byte 12. Parse it, grab the leaf certificate from SigningCertificateChain, derive the public key with openssl x509.

Step 2: Decrypt the Apple Archive

aea decrypt -profile 0 -sign-pub /tmp/signing_pub.pem \
  -i INPUT.shortcut -o /tmp/decoded.bin

Step 3: Extract bplist → XML

The decoded archive starts with AA01 metadata; the actual workflow bplist is embedded further in. Find the bplist marker and parse from there with plistlib.

Workflow: Edit & Re-sign XML → .shortcut

⚠️ shortcuts sign requires the input file to use a .wflow extension, otherwise it fails.

Changes

What this file has done since we first saw it

Hashed on every crawl. A supply-chain change to an agent config is a question of when, not whether, so the history is kept rather than the latest state alone.

siri-shortcut-editing is a skill published in the GitHub repository Jansen611/Agent-Skills (2 stars, last pushed 13d ago), licensed MIT. It adds 96 tokens to every session and 1,507 once invoked, about $0.0005 per session on Opus 5. A static security scan graded it A with 0 findings. No closer match exists in the catalogue, so it is treated as the original; first seen 2026-08-31.
