positioning

positioning is a skill for Claude Code, Codex from jaredlangleycc/nightshift-os. It costs 157 tokens per session (4,078 once invoked), scanned A, original, MIT.

A guide for explaining exactly who an offer is for, what result it provides, and how it differs from other choices.

In plain words
What is it for?
It helps create positioning statements, clearer pitches, elevator explanations, and comparisons with competitors.
Why use it?
It addresses vague descriptions that make it hard for the right customers to recognize the offer or understand why to choose it.

Token cost

What it costs to keep this loaded

Counted locally with the o200k_base tokenizer, which is exact for GPT models; Claude uses its own tokenizer and its counts differ. Treat this as one consistent yardstick across the catalogue rather than a bill. Prices are per million input tokens.

ModelPer sessionOnce invoked
Fable 5 $0.00157 $0.04078
Opus 5 $0.00078 $0.02039
Sonnet 5 $0.00031 $0.00816
Haiku 4.5 $0.00016 $0.00408

Measured 4d ago against content hash f4b79f202fe2, method: parsed. Prices are Anthropic first-party input rates as of 2026-08-30, from the pricing page.

Security

Grade A, and why

positioning scanned grade A with 0 findings against 26 rules in 11 categories — prompt injection, anti-refusal, data exfiltration, privilege escalation, supply chain, agent snooping, system-prompt leakage, SSRF and excessive agency — measured 4d ago.

A static scan of the body, not an audit. Every finding is printed with the line that produced it so you can judge whether it matters here. A mod is markdown that instructs an agent; that is exactly why what it instructs is worth reading.

Nothing flagged

None of the 26 patterns this scan looks for appear in this file: no shell pipes, no recursive deletes, no credential paths, no hidden text, no instruction-override or anti-refusal phrasing, no agent-config snooping. That is not a guarantee, it is the absence of the things that are checkable.

Positioning

The skill that turns "I help businesses grow" into a positioning statement so specific that the right buyer self-selects in and the wrong buyer self-selects out. Positioning is not branding. It is not copywriting. It is the operational answer to "what do you do and why are you the right choice."

A bad positioning statement protects the founder from picking. A good positioning statement is uncomfortable because it commits to a specific buyer, a specific outcome, and a specific contrast with the alternatives.

When this skill triggers

  • "Help me position my offer"
  • "What's my positioning"
  • "How am I different from competitors"
  • "Positioning statement"
  • "Elevator pitch"
  • "What do I tell people I do"
  • "I sound like everyone else"
  • "I need a clearer pitch"
  • "Why should they pick me"
  • Auto-activated when assessment Section 6 (Offer + ICP) is filled with vague positioning language
  • Auto-activated when assessment Goal Section 9 contains "positioning", "differentiation", "stand out", "premium"

NOT for: customer research (use icp-discovery first). NOT for: visual brand identity (use brand-strategist). NOT for: headline copywriting (use copywriting after positioning locks). NOT for: pricing decisions (use pricing-strategy after positioning locks).

The positioning formula

Every positioning statement follows this structure:

[I/We] help [specific ICP]
[achieve specific outcome]
by [specific approach],
unlike [common alternative]
which [shortcoming].

Five parts. All five must be specific. If any of the five is generic, the positioning is broken.

Example: good positioning

"I help frontline sales managers in their first 18 months at B2B SaaS companies (50-500 employees) build the leadership confidence to coach their team and hit their own number, through a 90-day coaching engagement, unlike traditional executive coaching that runs 12+ months at C-suite price points and treats family and career as separate problems."

Example: bad positioning

What this file has done since we first saw it

Hashed on every crawl. A supply-chain change to an agent config is a question of when, not whether, so the history is kept rather than the latest state alone.
