wow-native-ui

wow-native-ui is a skill for Claude Code from JBurlison/WoWAddonAPIAgents. It costs 69 tokens per session (673 once invoked), scanned A, original, MIT.

A guide for building new World of Warcraft addon windows and controls with the game's built-in interface elements. It covers native buttons, borders, fonts, textures, scrolling lists, and layouts for supported WoW clients.

In plain words
What is it for?
Use it to create addon-owned windows, controls, list rows, and protected action controls using verified WoW templates and client-specific source code.
Why use it?
It helps new addon interfaces look and behave consistently without confusing them with changes to Blizzard's existing windows.

Token cost

What it costs to keep this loaded

Counted locally with the o200k_base tokenizer, which is exact for GPT models; Claude uses its own tokenizer and its counts differ. Treat this as one consistent yardstick across the catalogue rather than a bill. Prices are per million input tokens.

ModelPer sessionOnce invoked
Fable 5.1 $0.00069 $0.00673
Opus 5.5 $0.00028 $0.00269
Sonnet 5.5 $0.00014 $0.00135
Haiku 4.5 $0.00007 $0.00067

Security

Grade A, and why

wow-native-ui scanned grade A with 0 findings against 26 rules in 11 categories — prompt injection, anti-refusal, data exfiltration, privilege escalation, supply chain, agent snooping, system-prompt leakage, SSRF and excessive agency — measured 2d ago.

A static scan of the body, not an audit. Every finding is printed with the line that produced it so you can judge whether it matters here. A mod is markdown that instructs an agent; that is exactly why what it instructs is worth reading.

Nothing flagged

None of the 26 patterns this scan looks for appear in this file: no shell pipes, no recursive deletes, no credential paths, no hidden text, no instruction-override or anti-refusal phrasing, no agent-config snooping. That is not a guarantee, it is the absence of the things that are checkable.

What it actually says

Build with native UI elements

Use native controls and artwork when they match the requested appearance. Start with client targets: resolve each selected client and pin its branch before choosing templates. A template in the source tree may belong to another game family, depend on another addon, or have client-specific overrides.

For new visible UI, follow the design and mock-up choice before production implementation, honoring an already accepted design or choice.

  1. Identify the component and ownership: an addon-owned window, ordinary control, reusable list row, or protected action control. Use element selection for the practical choices. Reskinning an existing CharacterFrame, spellbook, or other Blizzard window belongs in UI skinning.
  2. Find the native example, its XML declaration and Lua mixins, then trace the owning TOC, includes, client selectors, dependencies and initialization. Record the resolved template, expected parent keys, required scripts, asset identifiers and verified client/build. The source map supplies dated starting points, not a universal template catalog.
  3. Preserve the chosen template's behavior. Reuse its child references, normal/highlight/pushed/disabled state handling, resizing and layout lifecycle. Do not replace inherited setup scripts or alter shared fonts/layout tables to style one frame. Add your own children or use an addon-owned wrapper when composition is sufficient.
  4. Choose a fallback separately for each target. A verified primitive composition may replace an unavailable convenience template; otherwise report the component unsupported for that target. Function presence does not prove matching arguments, template loading or addon permission.
  5. Test the visible states and interactions listed in the element guide, using the existing UI design and testing choices and visual fidelity guide. Honor an accepted custom design; a stock button or border is not automatically a visual match. Reuse the user's established testing choice.

For exact native methods and script contracts, query widget APIs. For mixins, pools and load ownership, use FrameXML; for XML inheritance and script composition use XML schema. These references complement this construction workflow rather than replace client verification.

Keep ordinary decoration separate from protected gameplay behavior. Native artwork does not grant permission to move protected frames, set restricted attributes, perform actions in combat, or inspect secret values. Apply the selected client's verified restrictions. Report source verification, simulator results and in-game results separately; disclose stale evidence when current sources cannot be checked.

Changes

What this file has done since we first saw it

Hashed on every crawl. A supply-chain change to an agent config is a question of when, not whether, so the history is kept rather than the latest state alone.
