A message structure that explains Why an idea matters, How it works, and What is being offered. It puts the purpose or belief behind the work before the product or action.

In plain words
What is it for?
It helps write pitches, vision statements, campaigns, presentations, and calls to action.
Why use it?
It helps audiences understand the reason for a proposal and become more engaged when a clear list of features is not moving them.

Token cost

What it costs to keep this loaded

Counted locally with the o200k_base tokenizer, which is exact for GPT models; Claude uses its own tokenizer and its counts differ. Treat this as one consistent yardstick across the catalogue rather than a bill. Prices are per million input tokens.

ModelPer sessionOnce invoked
Fable 5.1 $0.00089 $0.01650
Opus 5 $0.00044 $0.00825
Sonnet 5 $0.00018 $0.00330
Haiku 4.5 $0.00009 $0.00165

Security

Grade A, and why

apply-golden-circle scanned grade A with 0 findings against 26 rules in 11 categories — prompt injection, anti-refusal, data exfiltration, privilege escalation, supply chain, agent snooping, system-prompt leakage, SSRF and excessive agency — measured 9d ago.

A static scan of the body, not an audit. Every finding is printed with the line that produced it so you can judge whether it matters here. A mod is markdown that instructs an agent; that is exactly why what it instructs is worth reading.

Nothing flagged

None of the 26 patterns this scan looks for appear in this file: no shell pipes, no recursive deletes, no credential paths, no hidden text, no instruction-override or anti-refusal phrasing, no agent-config snooping. That is not a guarantee, it is the absence of the things that are checkable.

Apply Golden Circle

Restructure a vision, pitch, or call to action to lead with Why (the belief or purpose driving the work), then How (the specific approach that makes it distinct), then What (the product or action itself) — because audiences respond to and remember purpose-led communication more than feature-led communication, even when the underlying facts communicated are identical.

Why This Is Best Practice

Why best: Most communication about a product, initiative, or organization defaults to leading with What (the specific thing being offered) and, if there's room, What it does differently (How), with the underlying Why left implicit or omitted entirely. Sinek's specific claim is that this ordering is backwards relative to what actually moves an audience to action or loyalty: leading explicitly with the belief or purpose behind the work, before describing the approach or the specific offering, produces stronger persuasion and identification than leading with the offering itself — the same facts, communicated in reverse order, produce a measurably different audience response.

Sinek, "Start with Why" (2009) and associated TED talk: Sinek's framework — the "Golden Circle" of three concentric layers, Why (purpose or belief) at the center, How (the specific approach) in the middle, and What (the product or action) on the outside — argues that most communicators work from the outside in (What, then How, then Why, if at all), while the organizations and leaders Sinek documents as unusually effective at inspiring loyalty and action communicate from the inside out, leading explicitly with Why. Sinek's TED talk presenting this framework is among the most-viewed TED talks ever recorded, and the book has been widely adopted in leadership and marketing communication training specifically for its practical reordering principle: state the purpose first, then the differentiated approach, then the specific offering — rather than the reverse.

Adopted by: "Start with Why" and the Golden Circle framework are widely taught in marketing, leadership communication, and brand strategy training; Sinek's TED talk on the framework is among the most-viewed talks in TED's history, reflecting broad practitioner and general-audience adoption of the reordering principle it presents. Impact: The framework's practical, widely-adopted claim is specifically about message ordering: communicating the same underlying facts (a product's features, an organization's approach) in Why-How-What order rather than What-How-Why order produces measurably stronger audience identification and motivation to act — a claim Sinek supports with case comparisons between organizations that lead with purpose and otherwise-comparable organizations that lead with product specifications alone.

What this file has done since we first saw it

Hashed on every crawl. A supply-chain change to an agent config is a question of when, not whether, so the history is kept rather than the latest state alone.
