A one-time setup guide for Second Brain OS, a personal system for organizing notes, tasks, and context. It interviews the user and creates or updates files for their role, projects, stakeholders, and integrations.

In plain words
What is it for?
Setting up a fresh installation, updating personal configuration, or explicitly resetting it after creating backups.
Why use it?
It replaces generic setup with information tailored to the person using the system, while preserving changes when updating existing files.

Skill for Claude CodeCodex

Written for no agent in particular: nothing here depends on one. Also seen: reads .claude/ paths; mentions CLAUDE.md; mentions Claude Code.

Not installable: its command points at a path on the author’s own machine, so it runs nowhere else. The line is /Users/jane/Vault.

Good fit Setting up a fresh installation, updating personal configuration, or explicitly resetting it after creating backups.

Token cost

What it costs to keep this loaded

Counted locally with the o200k_base tokenizer, which is exact for GPT models; Claude uses its own tokenizer and its counts differ. Treat this as one consistent yardstick across the catalogue rather than a bill. Prices are per million input tokens.

ModelPer sessionOnce invoked
Fable 5.1 $0.00170 $0.06047
Opus 5 $0.00085 $0.03024
Sonnet 5 $0.00034 $0.01209
Haiku 4.5 $0.00017 $0.00605

Security

Grade A, and why

personalize-second-brain scanned grade A with 0 findings against 26 rules in 11 categories — prompt injection, anti-refusal, data exfiltration, privilege escalation, supply chain, agent snooping, system-prompt leakage, SSRF and excessive agency — measured 12d ago.

A static scan of the body, not an audit. Every finding is printed with the line that produced it so you can judge whether it matters here. A mod is markdown that instructs an agent; that is exactly why what it instructs is worth reading.

Nothing flagged

None of the 26 patterns this scan looks for appear in this file: no shell pipes, no recursive deletes, no credential paths, no hidden text, no instruction-override or anti-refusal phrasing, no agent-config snooping. That is not a guarantee, it is the absence of the things that are checkable.

How it starts

The opening of the file, as written. The whole thing — 461 lines — stays where its author put it; the contents beside it link to each section on GitHub.

Personalize Second Brain

The setup skill that turns a generic Second Brain OS install into the user's own operating system. Run once per user. Re-runnable as the user's role, stakeholders, or integrations evolve.

This is the most important skill in the package. The quality of the personalization determines whether the system feels like the user's own or like a borrowed template.

Operating Modes

Detect the mode based on flags and existing state:

Mode Trigger Behavior
First-run (default) No existing Memory.md or CLAUDE.md in the chosen vault Run the full interview, generate all files.
Update --update flag, OR existing files detected on default invocation Ask "what changed?" (new role / stakeholders / projects / integrations / all). Edit existing files diff-aware; preserve user modifications outside the regenerated sections.
Reset --reset flag (explicit only) Confirm intent; back up Memory.md, CLAUDE.md, morning-brief/SKILL.md, evening-wrap/SKILL.md with timestamp suffix .backup-YYYYMMDD-HHMM; then run first-run flow.

If the user invokes the skill with no flag and existing files are detected, default to Update mode but tell the user what mode is active and offer to switch to --reset.

Interview Flow

Ask one question at a time. Be conversational. Don't dump a form.

Step 1 — Vignette selection (motion archetype)

Word-for-word never use the term "archetype" with the user. The internal label is hidden.

"Pick the description that sounds most like your week:

A. My calendar is dominated by strategy sessions and 1:1s with senior people. I make a few high-stakes decisions a week. Most of my work is thinking work.

B. I have 10–20 ongoing projects, meetings with many stakeholders, and a lot of cross-functional threads. My week is about holding context across concurrent work.

C. I have many tasks and commitments, direct ownership of projects, and a steady cadence of execution. My week is about closing things out.

D. None of these exactly — ask me a few more questions."

Changes

What this file has done since we first saw it

Hashed on every crawl. A supply-chain change to an agent config is a question of when, not whether, so the history is kept rather than the latest state alone.
