appkit-user

appkit-user is a skill for Claude Code, Codex from jenreh/appkit. It costs 100 tokens per session (1,805 once invoked), scanned A, original, MIT.

Authentication, login sessions, and user-management helpers for Appkit applications. They connect page routes, API routes, and WebSocket events to a user's session.

In plain words
What is it for?
Use it to require a signed-in user for API routes, add login and profile pages, and connect authentication middleware to an Appkit app.
Why use it?
They provide one session-based way to protect different kinds of application requests instead of handling login checks separately. The input does not describe all available user-management features.

Token cost

What it costs to keep this loaded

Counted locally with the o200k_base tokenizer, which is exact for GPT models; Claude uses its own tokenizer and its counts differ. Treat this as one consistent yardstick across the catalogue rather than a bill. Prices are per million input tokens.

ModelPer sessionOnce invoked
Fable 5.1 $0.00100 $0.01805
Opus 5.5 $0.00040 $0.00722
Sonnet 5.5 $0.00020 $0.00361
Haiku 4.5 $0.00010 $0.00180

Security

Grade A, and why

appkit-user scanned grade A with 0 findings against 26 rules in 11 categories — prompt injection, anti-refusal, data exfiltration, privilege escalation, supply chain, agent snooping, system-prompt leakage, SSRF and excessive agency — measured 11d ago.

A static scan of the body, not an audit. Every finding is printed with the line that produced it so you can judge whether it matters here. A mod is markdown that instructs an agent; that is exactly why what it instructs is worth reading.

Nothing flagged

None of the 26 patterns this scan looks for appear in this file: no shell pipes, no recursive deletes, no credential paths, no hidden text, no instruction-override or anti-refusal phrasing, no agent-config snooping. That is not a guarantee, it is the absence of the things that are checkable.

appkit-user Best Practices

Authentication, sessions and user management for appkit apps. For the general path prefix helpers (public_path, public_url, strip_public_prefix) see the appkit-commons skill.

1. Wiring

One import wires the whole guard: HTTP page loads and REST routes via the ASGI middleware, WebSocket events via the Reflex middleware.

from appkit_user.authentication import add_session_guard, install_session_filter
from appkit_user.authentication.pages import (  # noqa: F401  registers routes
    azure_oauth_callback_page,
    github_oauth_callback_page,
)
from appkit_user.user_management.pages import create_login_page, create_profile_page

create_login_page() # logo paths are app relative; prefixed internally
create_profile_page(app_navbar())

app = rx.App(api_transformer=[api_app, add_session_guard, add_https_middleware])
install_session_filter(app)

REST routes on the FastAPI app take the user from the session cookie:

from appkit_user.authentication import RequiredSession  # Depends(require_session)

@router.get("/api/things")
async def list_things(user: RequiredSession) -> list[Thing]: ...

2. Configuration

app:
  authentication:
    server_url: http://localhost
    server_port: 8080 # 0 or the scheme default is dropped
    session_timeout: 25          # minutes
    session_cookie_secure: true # false only for non-TLS hosts other than localhost
    # session_cookie_name: ""    # "" = derived from frontend_path (see §4)
    # storage_key_prefix: ""     # "" = derived from frontend_path (see §4)
    public_routes: # fnmatch globs, app relative; all else default-deny
      - /login
      - /password-reset
      - /password-reset/confirm
      - /oauth/*/callback
    oauth_providers:
      - provider: github
        client_id: secret:my-github-client-id
        client_secret: secret:my-github-client-secret
        # redirect_url: leave unset (see §5)

public_routes are matched against the route without the path prefix. Never write /knai/login there.

What this file has done since we first saw it

Hashed on every crawl. A supply-chain change to an agent config is a question of when, not whether, so the history is kept rather than the latest state alone.

appkit-user is a skill published in the GitHub repository jenreh/appkit (4 stars, last pushed 3d ago), licensed MIT. It adds 100 tokens to every session and 1,805 once invoked, about $0.0004 per session on Opus 5.5. A static security scan graded it A with 0 findings. No closer match exists in the catalogue, so it is treated as the original; first seen 2026-10-05.
