lanes-status

lanes-status is a skill for Claude Code, Codex from jesseposner/metacraft. It costs 21 tokens per session (751 once invoked), scanned A, original, Apache-2.0.

A status guide for tmux lanes, where each lane is a terminal panel running a command or coding agent.

In plain words
What is it for?
Use it to inspect every tmux panel, including its size, title, running process, and recent output, then classify its current state.
Why use it?
It gives a quick view of which panels are working, waiting, or ready for input without checking them one by one.

Token cost

What it costs to keep this loaded

Counted locally with the o200k_base tokenizer, which is exact for GPT models; Claude uses its own tokenizer and its counts differ. Treat this as one consistent yardstick across the catalogue rather than a bill. Prices are per million input tokens.

ModelPer sessionOnce invoked
Fable 5.1 $0.00021 $0.00751
Opus 5 $0.00010 $0.00376
Sonnet 5 $0.00004 $0.00150
Haiku 4.5 $0.00002 $0.00075

Measured 10d ago against content hash ae97188341ed, method: parsed. Prices are Anthropic first-party input rates as of 2026-09-10, from the pricing page.

Security

Grade A, and why

lanes-status scanned grade A with 0 findings against 26 rules in 11 categories — prompt injection, anti-refusal, data exfiltration, privilege escalation, supply chain, agent snooping, system-prompt leakage, SSRF and excessive agency — measured 10d ago.

A static scan of the body, not an audit. Every finding is printed with the line that produced it so you can judge whether it matters here. A mod is markdown that instructs an agent; that is exactly why what it instructs is worth reading.

Nothing flagged

None of the 26 patterns this scan looks for appear in this file: no shell pipes, no recursive deletes, no credential paths, no hidden text, no instruction-override or anti-refusal phrasing, no agent-config snooping. That is not a guarantee, it is the absence of the things that are checkable.

Lanes Status

Quick view of every pane in the current tmux window: what's running, what's idle, what's ready.

Process

1. Probe the workspace

Run these three commands to gather the raw state:

# Inventory: index, size, process, PID
tmux list-panes -F '#{pane_index} #{pane_width}x#{pane_height} #{pane_current_command} #{pane_pid}'

# Titles
tmux list-panes -F '#{pane_index} #{pane_title}'

# Last few lines of each pane's output
for i in $(tmux list-panes -F '#{pane_index}'); do
  echo "=== Pane $i ==="
  tmux capture-pane -t "$i" -p | tail -8
done

2. Classify each pane

From the captured output, determine state:

Signal State
Agent UI visible, recent output Active — agent is working
Agent UI visible, waiting for input Idle — session open, no activity
Shell prompt at the bottom Shell — ready for new agent
Anything else Unknown — investigate

3. Render the table

Present a single table showing the full workspace at a glance:

┌─────────────────┬────────┬──────────────────────┬──────────────────────────────────────────┐
│ Pane │ Size │ Title │ Status │
├─────────────────┼────────┼──────────────────────┼──────────────────────────────────────────┤
│ 0 (left) │ 162x82 │ "meta" │ Us — meta, active │
├─────────────────┼────────┼──────────────────────┼──────────────────────────────────────────┤
│ 1 (upper-right) │ 153x40 │ "Feature work" │ Stale — last session's agent, idle │
├─────────────────┼────────┼──────────────────────┼──────────────────────────────────────────┤
│ 2 (lower-right) │ 153x41 │ "Research" │ Shell — ready for new agent │
└─────────────────┴────────┴──────────────────────┴──────────────────────────────────────────┘

Include position hints (left, upper-right, etc.) when the layout is clear from pane sizes.

When the spatial layout matters, also render an ASCII view of the physical workspace:

What this file has done since we first saw it

Hashed on every crawl. A supply-chain change to an agent config is a question of when, not whether, so the history is kept rather than the latest state alone.

lanes-status is a skill published in the GitHub repository jesseposner/metacraft (11 stars, last pushed 6mo ago), licensed Apache-2.0. It adds 21 tokens to every session and 751 once invoked, about $0.0001 per session on Opus 5. A static security scan graded it A with 0 findings. No closer match exists in the catalogue, so it is treated as the original; first seen 2026-08-30.
