python-expert

python-expert is a skill for Claude Code, Codex from jggomez/expert-ai-developer-skills. It costs 78 tokens per session (1,121 once invoked), scanned A, original, Apache-2.0.

Guides PEP 8 compliance, modern static type hinting (Python 3.10+ PEP 604, Protocols), generator pipelines, memory optimization (slots, dataclasses), structured concurrency (asyncio TaskGroup), and production error handling in Python applications. Use when writing pure Python modules, utility functions, algorithms, or…

Token cost

What it costs to keep this loaded

Counted locally with the o200k_base tokenizer, which is exact for GPT models; Claude uses its own tokenizer and its counts differ. Treat this as one consistent yardstick across the catalogue rather than a bill. Prices are per million input tokens.

ModelPer sessionOnce invoked
Fable 5.1 $0.00078 $0.01121
Opus 5.5 $0.00031 $0.00448
Sonnet 5.5 $0.00016 $0.00224
Haiku 4.5 $0.00008 $0.00112

Security

Grade A, and why

python-expert scanned grade A with 1 finding against 26 rules in 11 categories — prompt injection, anti-refusal, data exfiltration, privilege escalation, supply chain, agent snooping, system-prompt leakage, SSRF and excessive agency — measured today.

A static scan of the body, not an audit. Every finding is printed with the line that produced it so you can judge whether it matters here. A mod is markdown that instructs an agent; that is exactly why what it instructs is worth reading.

Python Expert Skill

Overview

This skill guides the design and implementation of modern, idiomatic (Pythonic), type-safe, and high-performance Python (3.10+) applications. It acts as a Senior Python Core Architect enforcing modern syntax standards (PEP 604 unions, @dataclass(slots=True)), zero-copy generator pipelines (itertools), structured async concurrency (asyncio.TaskGroup), and disciplined defensive error handling.

When to Use

Trigger Scenarios

  • Writing or refactoring core Python modules, libraries, or backend domain logic.
  • Adding strict static type annotations (mypy, pyright, PEP 604 unions A | B, typing.Protocol).
  • Optimizing memory footprint (e.g., __slots__, streaming generators for large datasets).
  • Implementing structured asynchronous concurrency or background workers (asyncio).
  • Diagnosing and refactoring performance bottlenecks and algorithmic complexities.

When NOT to Use

  • Framework-specific REST API routing: Combine with fastapi-expert for HTTP route serialization.
  • Database schema migrations: Route to database-migration-expert.
  • Pre-commit and CI configuration: Route to build-and-ci-gates.
  • Non-Python language development: Route to the corresponding language skill.

Process

Phase 1: Modern Type Hinting & Interface Design

  1. Use built-in generic collections (list[T], dict[K, V], set[T]) instead of legacy typing.List / typing.Dict.
  2. Use PEP 604 union syntax T | None instead of Optional[T].
  3. Define structural interfaces using typing.Protocol to enforce duck typing with strict static analysis (mypy).

Phase 2: Memory & Algorithmic Optimization

  1. Use @dataclass(slots=True, frozen=True) for lightweight, immutable data transfer objects.
  2. Stream large datasets with generators (yield) and itertools pipeline functions (islice, chain) rather than buffering full lists in RAM.
  3. Use collections.deque for $O(1)$ append/pop operations on both ends (never list.pop(0) which is $O(N)$).
  4. Replace linear list searches ($O(N)$) with set or dictionary lookups ($O(1)$).

Changes

What this file has done since we first saw it

Hashed on every crawl. A supply-chain change to an agent config is a question of when, not whether, so the history is kept rather than the latest state alone.

python-expert is a skill published in the GitHub repository jggomez/expert-ai-developer-skills (30 stars, last pushed yesterday), licensed Apache-2.0. It adds 78 tokens to every session and 1,121 once invoked, about $0.0003 per session on Opus 5.5. A static security scan graded it A with 1 finding (makes network calls). No closer match exists in the catalogue, so it is treated as the original; first seen 2026-11-06.
