garmin-coach-mcp: Skill for Claude Code

.claude/skills/garmin-repo-hygiene/SKILL.md

garmin-repo-hygiene is a skill for Claude Code from jhoy1020/garmin-coach-mcp. It costs 65 tokens per session (909 once invoked), scanned A, original, MIT.

A pre-publish safety check for a public Garmin coach repository. It looks for both usable secrets and personal or infrastructure details that should not be committed.

In plain words
What is it for?
Run it before committing, pushing, or publishing changes, or when checking whether the repository is safe to share.
Why use it?
It helps prevent credentials, usernames, private paths, cloud identifiers, and other identifying details from becoming publicly archived.

Skill for Claude Code

Written for Claude Code: installed under .claude/.

This is jhoy1020/garmin-coach-mcp's own configuration. It tells Claude Code how to work on garmin-coach-mcp itself, so it is not a mod to install elsewhere. Copy it as a starting point and replace the rules that are about this project. Everything garmin-coach-mcp configures →

Needs its repository: it runs a file that does not travel with it, so clone the repository first. The line is python scripts/check_secrets.py.

Token cost

What it costs to keep this loaded

Counted locally with the o200k_base tokenizer, which is exact for GPT models; Claude uses its own tokenizer and its counts differ. Treat this as one consistent yardstick across the catalogue rather than a bill. Prices are per million input tokens.

ModelPer sessionOnce invoked
Fable 5.1 $0.00065 $0.00909
Opus 5 $0.00032 $0.00454
Sonnet 5 $0.00013 $0.00182
Haiku 4.5 $0.00006 $0.00091

Measured 11d ago against content hash 2343ab32ef22, method: parsed. Prices are Anthropic first-party input rates as of 2026-09-12, from the pricing page.

Security

Grade A, and why

garmin-repo-hygiene scanned grade A with 0 findings against 26 rules in 11 categories — prompt injection, anti-refusal, data exfiltration, privilege escalation, supply chain, agent snooping, system-prompt leakage, SSRF and excessive agency — measured 11d ago.

A static scan of the body, not an audit. Every finding is printed with the line that produced it so you can judge whether it matters here. A mod is markdown that instructs an agent; that is exactly why what it instructs is worth reading.

Nothing flagged

None of the 26 patterns this scan looks for appear in this file: no shell pipes, no recursive deletes, no credential paths, no hidden text, no instruction-override or anti-refusal phrasing, no agent-config snooping. That is not a guarantee, it is the absence of the things that are checkable.

How it starts

The opening of the file, as written. The whole thing — 88 lines — stays where its author put it; the contents beside it link to each section on GitHub.

Repository hygiene

This repository is public. Everything committed is world-readable and, once pushed, should be assumed permanently archived somewhere.

Two different problems

Most scanners look only for the first, and this project's actual leak was the second.

Credentials — an Entra client secret, a JWT, an Azure storage key, a connection string, a private key, an assigned SECRET=… value. Consequence: someone else gets in.

Personal data — a real username in a path, an absolute path into someone's checkout, a real resource group or region, a tenant/subscription/client/object GUID, a Container Apps FQDN, an email, a real credential expiry date. Consequence: the author is identified and their infrastructure is named. No login is granted, but none of it helps a reader either.

Run this

python scripts/check_secrets.py

Blocks on both classes. It runs as a pre-commit hook (enabled by python scripts/install_hooks.py, which setup_local.py calls) and in CI, so it is not the only line of defence — but run it before proposing a commit anyway.

It fails closed: outside a git repository, or with git missing, it exits non-zero rather than reporting "0 files, all clear".

Writing docs without leaking

  • Use <placeholder> for anything environment-specific: <azure-region>, <subscription-id>, <app>.
  • Prefer a command that derives the value: -g $(azd env get-value AZURE_RESOURCE_GROUP) beats a real group name.
  • In code, derive paths from scripts/_common.py:repo_root() or sys.prefix. Never write an absolute path into a string — including inside an error message, which is where one of these was previously hiding and being returned to remote callers.
  • Never state a credential expiry date. doctor.py --remote reads the real one from Microsoft Graph.

When a match is a false positive

Add a per-line pragma, so the exception is visible in the diff and has to be justified:

TENANT = "11111111-2222-3333-4444-555555555555"  # check-secrets: allow personal

What this file has done since we first saw it

Hashed on every crawl. A supply-chain change to an agent config is a question of when, not whether, so the history is kept rather than the latest state alone.

garmin-repo-hygiene is a skill published in the GitHub repository jhoy1020/garmin-coach-mcp (0 stars, last pushed 1mo ago), licensed MIT. It adds 65 tokens to every session and 909 once invoked, about $0.0003 per session on Opus 5. A static security scan graded it A with 0 findings.
