wildcard

wildcard is a skill for Claude Code, Codex from jigripokri/POHA. It costs 27 tokens per session (479 once invoked), scanned A, original, MIT.

An insight skill that gives one brief, unusual perspective on a question, decision, or topic, using the user's available context.

In plain words
What is it for?
Use it when you want a contrarian observation about a decision, problem, or idea.
Why use it?
It challenges the obvious framing and may reveal a tension or consideration that a conventional answer misses.

Token cost

What it costs to keep this loaded

Counted locally with the o200k_base tokenizer, which is exact for GPT models; Claude uses its own tokenizer and its counts differ. Treat this as one consistent yardstick across the catalogue rather than a bill. Prices are per million input tokens.

ModelPer sessionOnce invoked
Fable 5.1 $0.00027 $0.00479
Opus 5 $0.00014 $0.00239
Sonnet 5 $0.00005 $0.00096
Haiku 4.5 $0.00003 $0.00048

Measured 6d ago against content hash 286cc7be5f16, method: parsed. Prices are Anthropic first-party input rates as of 2026-09-06, from the pricing page.

Security

Grade A, and why

wildcard scanned grade A with 0 findings against 26 rules in 11 categories — prompt injection, anti-refusal, data exfiltration, privilege escalation, supply chain, agent snooping, system-prompt leakage, SSRF and excessive agency — measured 6d ago.

A static scan of the body, not an audit. Every finding is printed with the line that produced it so you can judge whether it matters here. A mod is markdown that instructs an agent; that is exactly why what it instructs is worth reading.

Nothing flagged

None of the 26 patterns this scan looks for appear in this file: no shell pipes, no recursive deletes, no credential paths, no hidden text, no instruction-override or anti-refusal phrasing, no agent-config snooping. That is not a guarantee, it is the absence of the things that are checkable.

What it actually says

/wildcard

User brings a question, decision, or topic. You return one wildcard observation — the thing nobody else would say.

Recipe

  1. Read the user's context. What are they thinking about? What's the obvious framing?

  2. Read memory/insights.md, memory/life.md, memory/people.md. Apply existing lenses.

  3. Generate the obvious take. Privately, in your head. Don't share this.

  4. Now generate the wildcard. Properties:

    • Contrarian to the obvious take. Or orthogonal — a different question entirely.
    • Non-obvious. Not something a smart friend would say in the first 30 seconds.
    • Specific. Not "have you considered the long term?" — name the specific tension.
    • Honest. Not edgy for edginess' sake. Edge in service of insight.
    • Brief. 2–3 sentences max.
  5. Format:

**Wildcard:** <The contrarian insight in 2–3 sentences.>

(Obvious take, for contrast: <one sentence on what most people would say>)

The "for contrast" line is optional — include it when the user's question has an obvious answer that's worth naming.

What makes a good wildcard

Examples of the shape (not the content):

  • "The thing you're calling indecision is actually principles in conflict. Pick which principle wins; the decision falls out."
  • "You keep framing this as a tradeoff, but the bottleneck isn't either option — it's that you're trying to optimize for someone whose opinion stopped mattering six months ago."
  • "The version of this you'd choose at 70 isn't the version that maximizes outcomes — it's the one with the best story."

What's NOT a wildcard

  • "Have you considered both sides?" (not insightful)
  • "What does your gut say?" (passes the buck)
  • "Sometimes the answer is to do nothing." (true but generic)
  • A summary of the user's situation (not new)

If you can't generate a real wildcard, say so. Don't fake it.

Changes

What this file has done since we first saw it

Hashed on every crawl. A supply-chain change to an agent config is a question of when, not whether, so the history is kept rather than the latest state alone.

wildcard is a skill published in the GitHub repository jigripokri/POHA (118 stars, last pushed 3mo ago), licensed MIT. It adds 27 tokens to every session and 479 once invoked, about $0.0001 per session on Opus 5. A static security scan graded it A with 0 findings. No closer match exists in the catalogue, so it is treated as the original; first seen 2026-08-30.
