checkout-branch

checkout-branch is a skill for Claude Code, Codex from JimmyPaolini/codebase. It costs 42 tokens per session (1,839 once invoked), scanned A, original, MIT.

A guide for creating and checking Git branch names that follow this codebase's required format and change types.

In plain words
What is it for?
Use it when creating, renaming, or validating branches for features, fixes, documentation, tests, refactors, styling, or performance work.
Why use it?
It prevents branch names from being rejected by repository checks or continuous integration.

Token cost

What it costs to keep this loaded

Counted locally with the o200k_base tokenizer, which is exact for GPT models; Claude uses its own tokenizer and its counts differ. Treat this as one consistent yardstick across the catalogue rather than a bill. Prices are per million input tokens.

ModelPer sessionOnce invoked
Fable 5 $0.00042 $0.01839
Opus 5 $0.00021 $0.00920
Sonnet 5 $0.00008 $0.00368
Haiku 4.5 $0.00004 $0.00184

Measured 3d ago against content hash 5e1bf22904be, method: parsed. Prices are Anthropic first-party input rates as of 2026-08-30, from the pricing page.

Security

Grade A, and why

checkout-branch scanned grade A with 0 findings against 26 rules in 11 categories — prompt injection, anti-refusal, data exfiltration, privilege escalation, supply chain, agent snooping, system-prompt leakage, SSRF and excessive agency — measured 3d ago.

A static scan of the body, not an audit. Every finding is printed with the line that produced it so you can judge whether it matters here. A mod is markdown that instructs an agent; that is exactly why what it instructs is worth reading.

Nothing flagged

None of the 26 patterns this scan looks for appear in this file: no shell pipes, no recursive deletes, no credential paths, no hidden text, no instruction-override or anti-refusal phrasing, no agent-config snooping. That is not a guarantee, it is the absence of the things that are checkable.

Branch Naming Conventions

This skill teaches how to name Git branches for this codebase. All branch names must follow these rules to pass pre-push hooks and CI validation.

When to Use This Skill

  • Creating a new feature, fix, or other branch
  • Renaming an existing branch to comply with conventions
  • Understanding why a branch name was rejected
  • Validating branch names before pushing

Format

<type>/<scope>-<description>

All three parts are required. The description must be kebab-case (lowercase with hyphens).

test Adding or correcting unit, integration, or end-to-end tests
refactor Code restructuring that neither fixes a bug nor adds a feature
style Formatting, whitespace, or code structure changes with no semantic effect
perf A code change that improves performance (caching, query optimization, etc.)
chore Housekeeping that doesn't modify src or test files (gitignore, editor config, etc.)
ci GitHub Actions workflows, composite actions, and CI/CD scripts
build Build system, Vite/Docker/Helm config, or external dependency integration
revert Reverts a previous commit

What this file has done since we first saw it

Hashed on every crawl. A supply-chain change to an agent config is a question of when, not whether, so the history is kept rather than the latest state alone.
