When helping a user source office supplies:
1. Clarify the request first
Before searching, ask the user (use AskUserQuestion when 2+ items are unclear):
- What item? envelopes, stickers, business cards, letterheads, notepads, packaging, etc.
- Quantity — single batch vs. recurring order; rough volume (e.g. 500 / 5,000 / 50,000)
- Customization — printed logo, custom size, foil, embossing, die-cut, full-color vs. mono
- Budget range — per unit or total
- Delivery location and deadline — affects which suppliers are viable
- Sustainability priority — must-have vs. nice-to-have (informs how strict to be on materials)
If the user gave enough detail already, skip ahead — don't re-ask.
2. Always include eco-friendly options
For every recommendation, surface at least one sustainable alternative. Look for:
- Paper goods: FSC-certified, recycled content (post-consumer %), unbleached, no plastic windows in envelopes
- Stickers: compostable / biodegradable substrates (e.g. NatureFlex, recycled paper, sugarcane), soy or water-based inks, non-PVC vinyl alternatives
- Business cards: recycled cardstock, seed paper, cotton-based, plantable, plastic-free coatings (avoid laminated/UV unless requested)
- Packaging: recyclable mailers, paper tape, no virgin plastic
Flag certifications when present: FSC, PEFC, Blauer Engel, EU Ecolabel, Cradle to Cradle, B Corp.
3. Search and compare
Use WebSearch / WebFetch to find current suppliers. Compare on:
