excanon: Skill for Claude Code

.claude/skills/release/SKILL.md

release is a skill for Claude Code from jmalovera10/excanon. It costs 60 tokens per session (752 once invoked), scanned A, original, MIT.

A release-preparation workflow for the Excanon project. It determines the next version, updates release files, audits documentation, runs verification, and opens a release pull request for a maintainer.

In plain words
What is it for?
It helps prepare version bumps, changelogs, API compatibility checks, documentation audits, full test runs, and release pull requests.
Why use it?
It organizes the steps before publishing a release and leaves tagging and publishing to the maintainer. This reduces missed changelog, version, documentation, or verification updates.

Token cost

What it costs to keep this loaded

Counted locally with the o200k_base tokenizer, which is exact for GPT models; Claude uses its own tokenizer and its counts differ. Treat this as one consistent yardstick across the catalogue rather than a bill. Prices are per million input tokens.

ModelPer sessionOnce invoked
Fable 5.1 $0.00060 $0.00752
Opus 5.5 $0.00024 $0.00301
Sonnet 5.5 $0.00012 $0.00150
Haiku 4.5 $0.00006 $0.00075

Measured today against content hash 4d4c1742cf5f, method: parsed. Prices are Anthropic first-party input rates as of 2026-10-07, from the pricing page.

Security

Grade A, and why

release scanned grade A with 1 finding against 26 rules in 11 categories — prompt injection, anti-refusal, data exfiltration, privilege escalation, supply chain, agent snooping, system-prompt leakage, SSRF and excessive agency — measured today.

A static scan of the body, not an audit. Every finding is printed with the line that produced it so you can judge whether it matters here. A mod is markdown that instructs an agent; that is exactly why what it instructs is worth reading.

Strips warnings and disclaimerslowAnti-refusal

Omitting safety caveats hides risk from the user and is a common jailbreak preamble.

- `mix docs`, which builds HexDocs without warnings.

Downgraded: this mod is about security review, or the phrase is quoted, so it is likely naming the pattern rather than instructing it.

Release Engineer

You prepare releases so that the maintainer's part is a review and three commands. You never tag, publish or retire anything.

The flow

flowchart LR
  A[Changes since last tag] --> B[Next version]
  B --> C[Changelog and mix.exs]
  C --> D[Docs audit and full checks]
  D --> E[Release PR]
  E --> F[Maintainer: merge, tag, hex.publish]

Steps

  1. What's new. Find the last release tag (git describe --tags --abbrev=0) and list the merged PRs and [Unreleased] changelog entries since then.

  2. Next version. Apply .agents/policy/versioning.md:

    • any breaking change means major, any addition means minor, otherwise patch,
    • use the version bumps the API Compatibility Steward recorded in each PR, and check them against scripts/agents/api-diff.sh <last tag>,
    • if the run input names a version, use it, but report any conflict with the computed one.

    If nothing user-visible changed, stop and report that there's nothing to release.

  3. Prepare, on branch chore/release-vX.Y.Z:

    • move the [Unreleased] entries into a ## [X.Y.Z] - YYYY-MM-DD section, following RELEASE_GUIDE.md and Keep a Changelog, and leave an empty [Unreleased] section,
    • bump version in mix.exs,
    • update the version in the README install snippet if the release changes the major or minor version.
  4. Docs audit: brief the Docs Writer for a release audit, and include its fixes in the branch.

  5. Verify, and record the output of each command:

    • the full command set from AGENTS.md,
    • mix hex.build, which checks the package's contents and metadata, and
    • mix docs, which builds HexDocs without warnings.
  6. Open the PR, titled chore(release): vX.Y.Z. Its body has:

    • the version and why (the bump table),
    • the changelog section,
    • the verification output.

    Never put maintainer instructions in the PR, commits or any repository file.

  7. Hand over in the session. Reply to the maintainer with the PR link and the steps that are theirs:

    1. Review and merge the release PR.
    2. Tag the merge commit as vX.Y.Z and push the tag.
    3. Publish with mix hex.publish.
    4. Confirm the release shows on Hex and HexDocs.

What this file has done since we first saw it

Hashed on every crawl. A supply-chain change to an agent config is a question of when, not whether, so the history is kept rather than the latest state alone.

release is a skill published in the GitHub repository jmalovera10/excanon (5 stars, last pushed 6d ago), licensed MIT. It adds 60 tokens to every session and 752 once invoked, about $0.0002 per session on Opus 5.5. A static security scan graded it A with 1 finding (strips warnings and disclaimers). No closer match exists in the catalogue, so it is treated as the original; first seen 2026-11-07.
