business-strategy

business-strategy is a skill for Claude Code, Codex from joao-aires/agent-skills-public. It costs 127 tokens per session (4,008 once invoked), scanned A, original, MIT.

A framework for developing and testing business or product strategy from first principles. It covers choices such as target customers, market entry, positioning, pricing, and growth.

In plain words
What is it for?
Use it for startup and product decisions, market analysis, competitive comparisons, go-to-market planning, and strategy updates.
Why use it?
It turns an initial idea into a testable hypothesis by examining assumptions, alternatives, competition, economics, and evidence that could change the decision.

Token cost

What it costs to keep this loaded

Counted locally with the o200k_base tokenizer, which is exact for GPT models; Claude uses its own tokenizer and its counts differ. Treat this as one consistent yardstick across the catalogue rather than a bill. Prices are per million input tokens.

ModelPer sessionOnce invoked
Fable 5.1 $0.00127 $0.04008
Opus 5 $0.00063 $0.02004
Sonnet 5 $0.00025 $0.00802
Haiku 4.5 $0.00013 $0.00401

Security

Grade A, and why

business-strategy scanned grade A with 0 findings against 26 rules in 11 categories — prompt injection, anti-refusal, data exfiltration, privilege escalation, supply chain, agent snooping, system-prompt leakage, SSRF and excessive agency — measured 4d ago.

A static scan of the body, not an audit. Every finding is printed with the line that produced it so you can judge whether it matters here. A mod is markdown that instructs an agent; that is exactly why what it instructs is worth reading.

Nothing flagged

None of the 26 patterns this scan looks for appear in this file: no shell pipes, no recursive deletes, no credential paths, no hidden text, no instruction-override or anti-refusal phrasing, no agent-config snooping. That is not a guarantee, it is the absence of the things that are checkable.

Business Strategy

Use this skill as a strategy-thinking system, not a consulting-report checklist.

The objective is to determine:

  • what opportunity actually exists;
  • where the business should play;
  • how it can win;
  • how the position becomes an economically attractive business;
  • why the advantage can persist;
  • what evidence should cause the strategy to change.

Core Principles

1. The initial idea is a hypothesis

Do not optimize the user's first concept by default. Expose its assumptions, compare genuine alternatives, and mutate the thesis when evidence supports a better formulation.

2. Separate value creation, value capture, and durability

Use this as a reasoning model, not a literal equation:

business quality ≈ value creation × value capture × durability

A large useful market can still produce a weak business if competition, buyers, suppliers, or platforms capture the surplus. Apparent pricing power without meaningful customer value can be fragile.

3. Strategy is a set of choices

A strategy should resolve real choices about customer, market, product, distribution, business model, capabilities, sequencing, and exclusions. Frameworks are lenses for making those choices, not substitutes for them.

When the user explicitly requests a named framework, apply it explicitly and faithfully using references/frameworks.md. When no framework is requested, use the native strategy questions below and invoke framework logic only when it improves the decision.

4. Research decision-changing uncertainty

Prioritize claims approximately by:

priority ≈ decision impact × uncertainty × cost of being wrong

Research should change confidence, options, or decisions—not maximize source count.

5. Generate before converging

For ambiguous strategy work, create materially different alternatives before choosing. Include different customers, buyers, jobs, layers, wedges, channels, business models, monetization models, geographies, and—when useful—different beliefs about how the market will evolve.

What this file has done since we first saw it

Hashed on every crawl. A supply-chain change to an agent config is a question of when, not whether, so the history is kept rather than the latest state alone.

business-strategy is a skill published in the GitHub repository joao-aires/agent-skills-public (2 stars, last pushed 5d ago), licensed MIT. It adds 127 tokens to every session and 4,008 once invoked, about $0.0006 per session on Opus 5. A static security scan graded it A with 0 findings. No closer match exists in the catalogue, so it is treated as the original; first seen 2026-08-31.
