gengi

gengi is a skill for Claude Code, Codex from jokull/icelandic-data. It costs 20 tokens per session (473 once invoked), scanned A, original, MIT.

A command-line tool for Icelandic króna exchange rates, using Borgun card rates for current values and European Central Bank reference rates for historical values.

In plain words
What is it for?
Use it to retrieve current ISK rates for selected currencies or download historical daily rates for periods from 30 days to five years.
Why use it?
It removes the need to find, compare, and manually copy exchange-rate data. It also makes clear that current rates include card-provider pricing rather than interbank rates.

Skill for Claude CodeCodex

Written for no agent in particular: nothing here depends on one. Also seen: installed under .agents/ (shared by several agents).

Not installable on its own: it runs a file from its repository that does not travel with it. Clone the repository, or install whatever ships that file. The line is uv run python scripts/gengi.py.

Getting it into your agent

There is no command for this one: it runs only inside a plugin, and the catalogue could not identify which plugin ships it. The source is linked below.

Made for: Claude Code, Codex.

Token cost

What it costs to keep this loaded

Counted locally with the o200k_base tokenizer, which is exact for GPT models; Claude uses its own tokenizer and its counts differ. Treat this as one consistent yardstick across the catalogue rather than a bill. Prices are per million input tokens.

ModelPer sessionOnce invoked
Fable 5.1 $0.00020 $0.00473
Opus 5 $0.00010 $0.00236
Sonnet 5 $0.00004 $0.00095
Haiku 4.5 $0.00002 $0.00047

Measured 6d ago against content hash 86e102b47d9d, method: parsed. Prices are Anthropic first-party input rates as of 2026-09-06, from the pricing page.

Security

Grade A, and why

gengi scanned grade A with 0 findings against 26 rules in 11 categories — prompt injection, anti-refusal, data exfiltration, privilege escalation, supply chain, agent snooping, system-prompt leakage, SSRF and excessive agency — measured 6d ago.

A static scan of the body, not an audit. Every finding is printed with the line that produced it so you can judge whether it matters here. A mod is markdown that instructs an agent; that is exactly why what it instructs is worth reading.

Nothing flagged

None of the 26 patterns this scan looks for appear in this file: no shell pipes, no recursive deletes, no credential paths, no hidden text, no instruction-override or anti-refusal phrasing, no agent-config snooping. That is not a guarantee, it is the absence of the things that are checkable.

What it actually says

Exchange Rates (Gengi)

Current card rates (Borgun) and historical ECB reference rates.

Usage

# Current Borgun card rates (all currencies)
uv run python scripts/gengi.py

# Current rates for specific currencies
uv run python scripts/gengi.py USD,EUR,GBP

# Historical ECB rates — last 6 months (default)
uv run python scripts/gengi.py USD,EUR --history 6m

# Historical rates — last year
uv run python scripts/gengi.py USD --history 1y

# Historical rates — last 5 years
uv run python scripts/gengi.py EUR,GBP,DKK --history 5y

# Historical rates — last 30 days
uv run python scripts/gengi.py USD,EUR --history 30d

Output — Current Rates

{
  "USD": { "rate": 127.19, "description": "Us dollar" },
  "EUR": { "rate": 146.91, "description": "Euro" }
}

Output — Historical Rates

{
  "base": "ISK",
  "start": "2025-10-05",
  "end": "2026-04-05",
  "currencies": ["USD", "EUR"],
  "rows": [

    { "date": "2025-10-07", "USD": 138.1, "EUR": 149.8 }
  ]
}

Values are ISK per 1 unit of foreign currency (e.g. 1 USD = 127.19 ISK).

Changes

What this file has done since we first saw it

Hashed on every crawl. A supply-chain change to an agent config is a question of when, not whether, so the history is kept rather than the latest state alone.

gengi is a skill published in the GitHub repository jokull/icelandic-data (52 stars, last pushed yesterday), licensed MIT. It adds 20 tokens to every session and 473 once invoked, about $0.0001 per session on Opus 5. A static security scan graded it A with 0 findings. No closer match exists in the catalogue, so it is treated as the original; first seen 2026-08-30.
