aktual: Skill for Claude Code

.claude/skills/redundant-module-links/SKILL.md

redundant-module-links is a skill for Claude Code from jonapoul/aktual. It costs 48 tokens per session (1,411 once invoked), scanned A, original, Apache-2.0.

A check for project dependencies in Gradle build files that are repeated through another dependency’s public links. Gradle is a build tool, and an `api` link makes one module’s dependency available to modules that use it.

In plain words
What is it for?
Use it after adding, removing, or changing project dependencies between `api` and `implementation`. It can report redundant links, remove them, regenerate the dependency map, and run compilation checks.
Why use it?
It helps remove unnecessary dependency declarations while checking that the project still compiles. This keeps dependency lists clearer after build-file changes.

Token cost

What it costs to keep this loaded

Counted locally with the o200k_base tokenizer, which is exact for GPT models; Claude uses its own tokenizer and its counts differ. Treat this as one consistent yardstick across the catalogue rather than a bill. Prices are per million input tokens.

ModelPer sessionOnce invoked
Fable 5.1 $0.00048 $0.01411
Opus 5.5 $0.00019 $0.00564
Sonnet 5.5 $0.00010 $0.00282
Haiku 4.5 $0.00005 $0.00141

Security

Grade A, and why

redundant-module-links scanned grade A with 0 findings against 26 rules in 11 categories — prompt injection, anti-refusal, data exfiltration, privilege escalation, supply chain, agent snooping, system-prompt leakage, SSRF and excessive agency — measured 5d ago.

The scan reads SKILL.md. This mod also ships 2 executable files (redundant_links.py, unexposed_api.py), listed below but not scanned — reading those needs a real analyzer, not pattern matching.

A static scan of the body, not an audit. Every finding is printed with the line that produced it so you can judge whether it matters here. A mod is markdown that instructs an agent; that is exactly why what it instructs is worth reading.

Nothing flagged

None of the 26 patterns this scan looks for appear in this file: no shell pipes, no recursive deletes, no credential paths, no hidden text, no instruction-override or anti-refusal phrasing, no agent-config snooping. That is not a guarantee, it is the absence of the things that are checkable.

How it starts

The opening of the file, as written. The whole thing — 105 lines — stays where its author put it; the contents beside it link to each section on GitHub.

Two checks on project(...) dependencies in build.gradle.kts files:

  • Unexposed api: an api dependency whose types don't appear in the module's public API, so it can be implementation.
  • Redundant: a dependency that another direct dependency already exposes through api links.

Run the unexposed check first, since flipping api links changes which chains exist.

When to run

After any change that adds, removes or switches (api <-> implementation) a project(...) dependency, or changes a public signature, alongside compile.sh and ktfmt.sh.

Process

1. Refresh the inputs

Both scripts read **/build/atlas/project-links.json, which only reflect the build files as of the last atlas run. The unexposed check also reads compiled main classes. Regenerate both first, through the gradle-runner agent:

./gradlew compileAll --continue
./gradlew atlasGenerate

2. Report unexposed api links

python3 .claude/skills/redundant-module-links/unexposed_api.py

It runs Exposed.java (plain java with ASM, kotlin-metadata-jvm and kotlin-stdlib from the Gradle cache) to read Kotlin metadata from every module's compiled classes, and lists which project modules each module's public API uses. An api link is reported when nothing from the dependency, or from anything it re-exports through api, appears in the public API. Modules are processed bottom-up, so a flip lower down is taken into account above it.

3. Report redundant links

python3 .claude/skills/redundant-module-links/redundant_links.py

Each line shows the build file line and the api chain that already exposes the dependency. If $ARGUMENTS contains --report-only, stop here and summarise both reports.

4. Apply

Flip the unexposed links first, then fix what breaks before removing redundant links:

python3 .claude/skills/redundant-module-links/unexposed_api.py --apply
./gradlew sortDependencies
./gradlew compileAll --continue

Changes

What this file has done since we first saw it

Hashed on every crawl. A supply-chain change to an agent config is a question of when, not whether, so the history is kept rather than the latest state alone.

redundant-module-links is a skill published in the GitHub repository jonapoul/aktual (43 stars, last pushed yesterday), licensed Apache-2.0. It adds 48 tokens to every session and 1,411 once invoked, about $0.0002 per session on Opus 5.5. A static security scan graded it A with 0 findings. No closer match exists in the catalogue, so it is treated as the original; first seen 2026-10-05.
