apex-workflow-start

apex-workflow-start is a skill for Claude Code from jonathan-vella/apex-accelerator. It costs 48 tokens per session (509 once invoked), scanned A, original, MIT.

A workflow skill for starting or resuming work in VS Code Copilot with an orchestrator or a selected domain owner. It recovers project records, asks for missing decisions, and uses the assistant's task system for delegation.

In plain words
What is it for?
It is for beginning or continuing coordinated project work, resolving the requested operation, collecting missing details, and dispatching authorized tasks.
Why use it?
It helps resume work from recorded project evidence instead of guessing the project, repeating confirmed information, or treating file names as proof of completion.

Token cost

What it costs to keep this loaded

Counted locally with the o200k_base tokenizer, which is exact for GPT models; Claude uses its own tokenizer and its counts differ. Treat this as one consistent yardstick across the catalogue rather than a bill. Prices are per million input tokens.

ModelPer sessionOnce invoked
Fable 5.1 $0.00048 $0.00509
Opus 5.5 $0.00019 $0.00204
Sonnet 5.5 $0.00010 $0.00102
Haiku 4.5 $0.00005 $0.00051

Security

Grade A, and why

apex-workflow-start scanned grade A with 0 findings against 26 rules in 11 categories — prompt injection, anti-refusal, data exfiltration, privilege escalation, supply chain, agent snooping, system-prompt leakage, SSRF and excessive agency — measured yesterday.

A static scan of the body, not an audit. Every finding is printed with the line that produced it so you can judge whether it matters here. A mod is markdown that instructs an agent; that is exactly why what it instructs is worth reading.

Nothing flagged

None of the 26 patterns this scan looks for appear in this file: no shell pipes, no recursive deletes, no credential paths, no hidden text, no instruction-override or anti-refusal phrasing, no agent-config snooping. That is not a guarantee, it is the absence of the things that are checkable.

Workflow Start

Prerequisites

Use the Copilot session target inside VS Code. A skill inherits actual caller tools/model; it cannot change the selected role, grant permission or establish human approval. Use the Orchestrator for end-to-end coordination or directly select the requested domain owner. If the requested owner is already active, continue there; never ask the user to select the same role again. Direct Requirements, Architect, Design and Governance ask missing material questions through native ask_user. Delegated tasks return the form to their interactive parent.

Procedure

Resolve the requested operation and project. Supplied explicit values need no repeated confirmation; ambiguous operation/project requires a native question. No guessed new project on an empty recall result. Read workflow entry and workflow engine only for relevant domain prerequisites. Recover apex-recall show <project> --json, existing summary/artifacts and real review/approval evidence. Never read/write state JSON directly or infer completion from numbered files.

Use native task lifecycle for authorized delegation and actual results. No handoff-button, handshake or log-path prerequisite. Missing tool/input/approval returns a precise blocker; do not widen scope or substitute model/owner. Decline/cancellation never approve; Autopilot form answers are not independent human authorization. For resume preserve findings, checkpoints, current source evidence and actual invocation allowances. For an explicit start/new-project request, initialization alone is not completion: the active Orchestrator dispatches 02-Requirements and mediates its missing discovery questions. Only an explicit initialization-only request stops at the verified session record. Existing pending work is resumed, never reinitialized to recover this startup path.

What this file has done since we first saw it

Hashed on every crawl. A supply-chain change to an agent config is a question of when, not whether, so the history is kept rather than the latest state alone.
