lore-handoff

lore-handoff is a skill for Claude Code, Codex from jordanhindo/lore. It costs 64 tokens per session (366 once invoked), scanned A, original, MIT.

A workflow for creating compact handoff notes when one coding agent passes work to another or resumes it later. It separates confirmed facts from open, outdated, risky, and unresolved information, with evidence references.

In plain words
What is it for?
Use it to prepare continuation notes, record relevant files and evidence, list proposals and unresolved questions, and suggest next actions without performing them.
Why use it?
It prevents important context from being buried in long transcripts and keeps uncertain claims from being treated as facts.

Written for no agent in particular: nothing here depends on one.

Needs its repository: it runs a file that does not travel with it, so clone the repository first. The line is node skills/lore-dev-verification/scripts/validate-workflow-skill.mjs skills/lore-handoff.

Token cost

What it costs to keep this loaded

Counted locally with the o200k_base tokenizer, which is exact for GPT models; Claude uses its own tokenizer and its counts differ. Treat this as one consistent yardstick across the catalogue rather than a bill. Prices are per million input tokens.

ModelPer sessionOnce invoked
Fable 5.1 $0.00064 $0.00366
Opus 5 $0.00032 $0.00183
Sonnet 5 $0.00013 $0.00073
Haiku 4.5 $0.00006 $0.00037

Security

Grade A, and why

lore-handoff scanned grade A with 0 findings against 26 rules in 11 categories — prompt injection, anti-refusal, data exfiltration, privilege escalation, supply chain, agent snooping, system-prompt leakage, SSRF and excessive agency — measured 8d ago.

The scan reads SKILL.md. This mod also ships 1 executable file (scripts/validate-handoff.mjs), listed below but not scanned — reading those needs a real analyzer, not pattern matching.

A static scan of the body, not an audit. Every finding is printed with the line that produced it so you can judge whether it matters here. A mod is markdown that instructs an agent; that is exactly why what it instructs is worth reading.

Nothing flagged

None of the 26 patterns this scan looks for appear in this file: no shell pipes, no recursive deletes, no credential paths, no hidden text, no instruction-override or anti-refusal phrasing, no agent-config snooping. That is not a guarantee, it is the absence of the things that are checkable.

What it actually says

Lore Handoff

Use this skill when the next agent needs to pick up work safely without reading raw transcript soup.

Workflow

  1. Use lore-recall to gather bounded evidence and status.
  2. Reuse lore-brief/references/proposal-vocabulary.md for proposals, memory-card candidates, and contradictions.
  3. Emit compact sections: verified, open, stale, risky, artifacts, proposals, memoryCardCandidates, contradictionCandidates, and nextActions.
  4. Mark uncited/open claims explicitly; do not smooth uncertainty into certainty.
  5. If evidence is stale, tell the next agent to inspect current files, tests, or runtime state before acting.

Rules

  • Do not dump transcript blocks or page whole sessions.
  • Every claim, artifact, and next action cites evidenceIds or is marked uncited:true.
  • Preserve risky assumptions, unresolved questions, and contradictions with both sides cited.
  • Use shared proposal, memory-card, and contradiction shapes; do not invent private todoList or mutation objects.
  • Handoff may recommend next actions but does not perform them.

Validation

node skills/lore-handoff/scripts/validate-handoff.mjs skills/lore-handoff/examples/good-handoff.json
node skills/lore-dev-verification/scripts/validate-workflow-skill.mjs skills/lore-handoff
Files

What ships with it

6 files beside SKILL.md in the same directory: the scripts, references and assets a skill reads on demand. Not counted in the per-session cost; read them before you install if any of them is executable.

Changes

What this file has done since we first saw it

Hashed on every crawl. A supply-chain change to an agent config is a question of when, not whether, so the history is kept rather than the latest state alone.
