A guide for creating AI image prompts and deciding where images should appear in a blog post.

In plain words
What is it for?
Use it to review an article's type, themes, structure, and tone, then create prompts for hero images, section breaks, and concept illustrations.
Why use it?
It turns a written article into a planned set of visuals instead of leaving image choices and placement to guesswork.

Token cost

What it costs to keep this loaded

Counted locally with the o200k_base tokenizer, which is exact for GPT models; Claude uses its own tokenizer and its counts differ. Treat this as one consistent yardstick across the catalogue rather than a bill. Prices are per million input tokens.

ModelPer sessionOnce invoked
Fable 5.1 $0.00017 $0.00890
Opus 5 $0.00009 $0.00445
Sonnet 5 $0.00003 $0.00178
Haiku 4.5 $0.00002 $0.00089

Security

Grade A, and why

blog-image-prompts scanned grade A with 0 findings against 26 rules in 11 categories — prompt injection, anti-refusal, data exfiltration, privilege escalation, supply chain, agent snooping, system-prompt leakage, SSRF and excessive agency — measured 11d ago.

A static scan of the body, not an audit. Every finding is printed with the line that produced it so you can judge whether it matters here. A mod is markdown that instructs an agent; that is exactly why what it instructs is worth reading.

Nothing flagged

None of the 26 patterns this scan looks for appear in this file: no shell pipes, no recursive deletes, no credential paths, no hidden text, no instruction-override or anti-refusal phrasing, no agent-config snooping. That is not a guarantee, it is the absence of the things that are checkable.

Blog Post Image Prompt Generator

Workflow Checklist

Copy and track progress:

Image Prompt Progress:
- [ ] Step 1: Analyze blog post (type, tone, themes)
- [ ] Step 2: Identify placement points
- [ ] Step 3: Determine visual style
- [ ] Step 4: Generate prompts
- [ ] Step 5: Validate prompts
- [ ] Step 6: Write output file

Process

Step 1: Analyze the Blog Post

Identify:

  • Content type: Technical, personal essay, business, opinion, how-to
  • Key themes: Concepts, metaphors, or ideas that could be visualized
  • Structure: Sections and natural break points

Step 2: Identify Placement Points

Location When to Use
Hero Almost always
Section breaks Long posts with distinct sections
Concept illustrations Abstract ideas needing visualization
Emotional beats Key moments in narratives

Quantity (flexible guidelines):

  • Short posts: 1-2 images
  • Medium posts: 2-4 images
  • Long posts: 3-6 images

Not every section needs an image.

Step 3: Determine Visual Style

Content Type Style Direction
Technical Diagrams, isometric, flat design
Personal essays Editorial photography, painterly, atmospheric
Business Professional, polished
Opinion Conceptual, metaphorical, abstract

Step 4: Generate Prompts

Each prompt must include these six elements:

  1. Subject - Main focus
  2. Style - Illustration, photograph, diagram, etc.
  3. Mood - Lighting, color palette, emotional tone
  4. Composition - Framing, perspective, negative space
  5. Details - Specific elements from the blog content
  6. Alt text - Descriptive alt text for the generated image (for accessibility and SEO)

For concrete examples, see references/prompt-examples.md.

Step 5: Validate Prompts

Before presenting, verify each prompt:

  • References specific content/metaphors from the post
  • Style is consistent across all prompts
  • Aspect ratio specified (16:9 for headers, 1:1 or 4:3 for inline)
  • Explicitly excludes common AI clichés (lightbulbs for ideas, handshakes for business, etc.)
  • No text rendering requested (AI struggles with text)
  • Alt text is descriptive and contextual (not just restating the prompt)

What this file has done since we first saw it

Hashed on every crawl. A supply-chain change to an agent config is a question of when, not whether, so the history is kept rather than the latest state alone.
