fcpx-timeline

fcpx-timeline is a skill for Codex from judeyang/judeyang-skills. It costs 68 tokens per session (1,744 once invoked), scanned A, original, MIT.

A tool that turns a local folder of media files into a chronological Final Cut Pro timeline. Final Cut Pro is Apple's video-editing application, and FCPXML is the file format used to exchange timelines with it.

In plain words
What is it for?
Use it to create an FCPXML timeline from videos, JPG, PNG, or HEIC photos, and Live Photos, sorted by capture time or a specified AI-shot order.
Why use it?
It saves you from sorting clips and photos and building the timeline by hand. It also handles still images and pairs of photos with their short Live Photo videos.

Not installable: its command points at a path on the author’s own machine, so it runs nowhere else. The line is /Users/jude/.codex/skills/fcpx-timeline/scripts/make_timeline.py.

Token cost

What it costs to keep this loaded

Counted locally with the o200k_base tokenizer, which is exact for GPT models; Claude uses its own tokenizer and its counts differ. Treat this as one consistent yardstick across the catalogue rather than a bill. Prices are per million input tokens.

ModelPer sessionOnce invoked
Fable 5.1 $0.00068 $0.01744
Opus 5 $0.00034 $0.00872
Sonnet 5 $0.00014 $0.00349
Haiku 4.5 $0.00007 $0.00174

Security

Grade A, and why

fcpx-timeline scanned grade A with 0 findings against 26 rules in 11 categories — prompt injection, anti-refusal, data exfiltration, privilege escalation, supply chain, agent snooping, system-prompt leakage, SSRF and excessive agency — measured 11d ago.

The scan reads SKILL.md. This mod also ships 2 executable files (scripts/make_timeline.py, scripts/validate-fcpxml.py), listed below but not scanned — reading those needs a real analyzer, not pattern matching.

A static scan of the body, not an audit. Every finding is printed with the line that produced it so you can judge whether it matters here. A mod is markdown that instructs an agent; that is exactly why what it instructs is worth reading.

Nothing flagged

None of the 26 patterns this scan looks for appear in this file: no shell pipes, no recursive deletes, no credential paths, no hidden text, no instruction-override or anti-refusal phrasing, no agent-config snooping. That is not a guarantee, it is the absence of the things that are checkable.

FCPX Timeline

Created by JudeYang.

Purpose

Create a Final Cut Pro XML timeline from one local media folder, sorted by capture time. Use the bundled script instead of hand-writing FCPXML.

Default Workflow

  1. Confirm or infer the source media folder path.
  2. Decide the sort mode:
    • real camera media: default chronological capture-time sort
    • AI video project clips named like 镜头01_视频_v01.mp4: use --ai-shot-order
  3. Generate the full timeline with still conversion:
python3 /Users/jude/.codex/skills/fcpx-timeline/scripts/make_timeline.py "/path/to/media-folder" \
  --out "/path/to/output-folder/timeline.fcpxml" \
  --photo-duration 2 \
  --convert-stills \
  --manifest "/path/to/output-folder/timeline_manifest.json"

For AI video clips:

python3 /Users/jude/.codex/skills/fcpx-timeline/scripts/make_timeline.py "/path/to/05_内部制作执行/02_视频片段" \
  --out "/path/to/05_内部制作执行/03_成片/timeline.fcpxml" \
  --ai-shot-order \
  --manifest "/path/to/05_内部制作执行/03_成片/timeline_manifest.json"
  1. Tell the user to import timeline.fcpxml into Final Cut Pro.
  2. Mention that converted stills live next to the XML in timeline_stills/; the folder must stay available for FCP relinking/import.

Rules Encoded In The Script

  • Videos: .mov, .mp4, .m4v; placed in the timeline by capture time.
  • Photos: .jpg, .jpeg, .png, .heic, .heif; placed as 2-second placeholders by default.
  • Live Photos: when a still and video pair is detected, use only the video part and skip the still.
  • HEIC/HEIF without a matching Live Photo video is treated as a photo.
  • Capture time priority: embedded EXIF/QuickTime/XMP metadata first; file creation/modification time as fallback.
  • Static images are copied or converted to JPEG under timeline_stills/ when --convert-stills is used.
  • Clip durations and offsets are aligned to the selected timeline frame rate, default --fps 30, to avoid FCP frame-boundary warnings.
  • AI shot mode (--ai-shot-order): filenames containing 镜头NN are sorted by shot number instead of capture time.
  • AI shot mode keeps the latest _vNN file per shot and prints warnings for skipped older/duplicate versions.
  • AI shot mode prints missing shot-number warnings, such as missing 镜头03 between 镜头02 and 镜头04.
  • Unnumbered media is kept after numbered shots and reported, so B-roll or extra files do not silently disappear.

Changes

What this file has done since we first saw it

Hashed on every crawl. A supply-chain change to an agent config is a question of when, not whether, so the history is kept rather than the latest state alone.

fcpx-timeline is a skill published in the GitHub repository judeyang/judeyang-skills (2 stars, last pushed 1mo ago), licensed MIT. It adds 68 tokens to every session and 1,744 once invoked, about $0.0003 per session on Opus 5. A static security scan graded it A with 0 findings. No closer match exists in the catalogue, so it is treated as the original; first seen 2026-08-31.
