agent-sort

agent-sort is a skill for Claude Code, Codex from jxoesneon/Ciel. It costs 11 tokens per session (526 once invoked), scanned A, original, Apache-2.0.

A system for deciding which coding-agent skills should always be loaded and which should remain available for search. It uses evidence from the repository to keep the active set focused.

In plain words
What is it for?
Use it to inspect a codebase's real technology stack, classify skills as active or searchable, and review when skills should be promoted or moved out of the default set.
Why use it?
It prevents the agent from carrying irrelevant instructions in its working context while keeping less frequently needed skills accessible.

Token cost

What it costs to keep this loaded

Counted locally with the o200k_base tokenizer, which is exact for GPT models; Claude uses its own tokenizer and its counts differ. Treat this as one consistent yardstick across the catalogue rather than a bill. Prices are per million input tokens.

ModelPer sessionOnce invoked
Fable 5.1 $0.00011 $0.00526
Opus 5 $0.00005 $0.00263
Sonnet 5 $0.00002 $0.00105
Haiku 4.5 $0.00001 $0.00053

Security

Grade A, and why

agent-sort scanned grade A with 0 findings against 26 rules in 11 categories — prompt injection, anti-refusal, data exfiltration, privilege escalation, supply chain, agent snooping, system-prompt leakage, SSRF and excessive agency — measured 5d ago.

A static scan of the body, not an audit. Every finding is printed with the line that produced it so you can judge whether it matters here. A mod is markdown that instructs an agent; that is exactly why what it instructs is worth reading.

Nothing flagged

None of the 26 patterns this scan looks for appear in this file: no shell pipes, no recursive deletes, no credential paths, no hidden text, no instruction-override or anti-refusal phrasing, no agent-config snooping. That is not a guarantee, it is the absence of the things that are checkable.

What it actually says

CIEL ADAPTATION: Agent Sort

This skill provides CIEL's mechanism for maintaining a lean, high-performance orchestration surface. It uses repo-local evidence to classify capabilities into "Active" (DAILY) or "Searchable" (LIBRARY).

Integration Context

Adapted from ~/.agents/skills/agent-sort/. This skill is critical for CIEL's Efficiency mandate, ensuring that the active context is not saturated by irrelevant capabilities.

Classification Model

  • DAILY (Active): Loaded by default. Essential for the project's primary stack (e.g., TS, React, CI).
  • LIBRARY (Searchable): Indexed in MemPalace but not loaded. Accessible via semantic search if needed.

Orchestration Logic

1. Evidence-First Triage

Before any major ingestion batch, the orchestration skill should trigger an agent-sort pass to establish the repo's real stack.

2. Context Optimization

During Strategic Compact operations, use this skill to demote skills that haven't been "hit" (per MemPalace stats) to the LIBRARY bucket.

3. Registry Synchronization

The Council of Five must approve all DAILY vs LIBRARY promotion/demotion cycles to ensure no critical safeguards are accidentally offloaded.

4. Verification

A sort pass is complete when:

  • All DAILY items have cited repo evidence (file extensions, manifests).
  • Stale or off-stack rules and hooks are identified and marked for removal.
  • The resulting context window reduction is documented.

Original Documentation preserved at source.

Changes

What this file has done since we first saw it

Hashed on every crawl. A supply-chain change to an agent config is a question of when, not whether, so the history is kept rather than the latest state alone.

agent-sort is a skill published in the GitHub repository jxoesneon/Ciel (1 stars, last pushed 5d ago), licensed Apache-2.0. It adds 11 tokens to every session and 526 once invoked, about $0.0001 per session on Opus 5. A static security scan graded it A with 0 findings. No closer match exists in the catalogue, so it is treated as the original; first seen 2026-08-31.
