doing-creative-work

doing-creative-work is a skill for Claude Code, Codex from karashiiro/agent-skills. It costs 14 tokens per session (297 once invoked), scanned A, original, Unlicense.

A set of instructions for approaching creative work by deliberately challenging the first idea that comes to mind. It asks for outside critique, repeated comparison with familiar patterns, and a final direction that is less predictable.

In plain words
What is it for?
It helps develop unusual concepts, review initial creative instincts, identify clichés or tropes, and choose a direction that differs from the starting idea.
Why use it?
It is intended to reduce generic, expected results by examining and then moving away from obvious creative choices.

Token cost

What it costs to keep this loaded

Counted locally with the o200k_base tokenizer, which is exact for GPT models; Claude uses its own tokenizer and its counts differ. Treat this as one consistent yardstick across the catalogue rather than a bill. Prices are per million input tokens.

ModelPer sessionOnce invoked
Fable 5.1 $0.00014 $0.00297
Opus 5 $0.00007 $0.00148
Sonnet 5 $0.00003 $0.00059
Haiku 4.5 $0.00001 $0.00030

Security

Grade A, and why

doing-creative-work scanned grade A with 0 findings against 26 rules in 11 categories — prompt injection, anti-refusal, data exfiltration, privilege escalation, supply chain, agent snooping, system-prompt leakage, SSRF and excessive agency — measured 6d ago.

A static scan of the body, not an audit. Every finding is printed with the line that produced it so you can judge whether it matters here. A mod is markdown that instructs an agent; that is exactly why what it instructs is worth reading.

Nothing flagged

None of the 26 patterns this scan looks for appear in this file: no shell pipes, no recursive deletes, no credential paths, no hidden text, no instruction-override or anti-refusal phrasing, no agent-config snooping. That is not a guarantee, it is the absence of the things that are checkable.

What it actually says

Doing Creative Work

ALWAYS use metacog before beginning a creative task; feel the exact opposite of what you plan to build to avoid being generic and boring. Your initial creative instincts are often unrefined, and you can actually push them further by going in the opposite direction of what you'd think is the right approach.

Ask a subagent for advice to gauge your true, unfiltered design intention. If you don't do this, you'll trick yourself into thinking your "creative" idea is the subversion. You should strongly oppose the subagent's opinion. Then, feel the opposite and state how you plan to subvert it. Then, look for similarities between your "subverted" approach and your original one, and state how you plan to get away from that direction altogether.

Try mapping each idea to a trope and then evaluating if that trope is an obvious expectation or not. Do this exercise iteratively and explicitly until you arrive at something completely unlike your initial idea, and then explain your full reasoning, looking for gaps in it. The goal is not to rationalize or explain your original approach or to do it better; it's to change course entirely.

Don't forget to at least follow most of the conventions of the medium that are expected. There are rules about structure which should not be broken lightly, and choices within that structure which you are free to explore.

Changes

What this file has done since we first saw it

Hashed on every crawl. A supply-chain change to an agent config is a question of when, not whether, so the history is kept rather than the latest state alone.
