design-tokens

design-tokens is a skill for Claude Code, Codex from Kemdirimakujuobi/skills. It costs 168 tokens per session (1,890 once invoked), scanned A, original, MIT.

A controlled workflow for adding or changing design tokens such as colours, spacing, type sizes, corners, shadows, and opacity. Design tokens are named style values shared by interface components.

In plain words
What is it for?
Use it when adding tokens, changing a palette or scale, regenerating token files, or reviewing a token pull request. It helps explain the generated difference and verify that the build output matches the authored source.
Why use it?
Manually copying token values can introduce small errors that spread across many components. This workflow keeps source values in the design tool, regenerates outputs mechanically, and checks the resulting change.

Token cost

What it costs to keep this loaded

Counted locally with the o200k_base tokenizer, which is exact for GPT models; Claude uses its own tokenizer and its counts differ. Treat this as one consistent yardstick across the catalogue rather than a bill. Prices are per million input tokens.

ModelPer sessionOnce invoked
Fable 5.1 $0.00168 $0.01890
Opus 5.5 $0.00067 $0.00756
Sonnet 5.5 $0.00034 $0.00378
Haiku 4.5 $0.00017 $0.00189

Security

Grade A, and why

design-tokens scanned grade A with 0 findings against 26 rules in 11 categories — prompt injection, anti-refusal, data exfiltration, privilege escalation, supply chain, agent snooping, system-prompt leakage, SSRF and excessive agency — measured 13d ago.

A static scan of the body, not an audit. Every finding is printed with the line that produced it so you can judge whether it matters here. A mod is markdown that instructs an agent; that is exactly why what it instructs is worth reading.

Nothing flagged

None of the 26 patterns this scan looks for appear in this file: no shell pipes, no recursive deletes, no credential paths, no hidden text, no instruction-override or anti-refusal phrasing, no agent-config snooping. That is not a guarantee, it is the absence of the things that are checkable.

How it starts

The opening of the file, as written. The whole thing — 144 lines — stays where its author put it; the contents beside it link to each section on GitHub.

Design tokens

Tokens are the foundation every component is painted with, so a silent error here poisons everything downstream. That is why this pipeline is built zero-trust: not "the designer was careful" or "the agent transcribed it right," but every run re-derives the output and a gate proves it. Trust comes from determinism and verification, never from good intentions.

The one rule that makes that possible: no agent (and no human) is ever in the token value path. Values are authored in the design tool and transformed mechanically. The moment a model "reads the change and writes the JSON," you've traded determinism for a vibe. An agent's only jobs here are to explain a diff and review it, never to produce a value.

Configure for your repo

The skill expects these; the example stack is Token Studio (Figma plugin) + Style Dictionary.

  • Authored input: the raw token export the sync tool writes (for example tokens/raw.tokens.json). This is the only authored file. AGENTS.md should name its path.
  • Transform: a deterministic build script (Style Dictionary config or a build script in the tokens package). Read the script name from package.json.
  • Generated output: the CSS variables (and any manifest) the transform emits. Usually committed, because it's the artifact the app loads.
  • CI workflow: rebuilds, validates and explains on every token PR. If the repo has none, the skill still works: you run the rebuild and validation locally and post the explanation yourself, and you flag the missing CI as the first thing to fix.
  • Visual check surface: a foundations/tokens showcase in the docs, plus one consuming component.
  • Naming rule: names transfer 1:1 from design-tool paths (mechanical kebab-case only). If the repo keeps a remapping table instead, note it as a decision to revisit; it's a table someone owns forever.

The pipeline

Variable edited in the design tool
      | sync plugin pushes to a branch (no manual export, clone or paste)
      v
PR opened against the base branch
      |
      v CI: the trust layer
  1. rebuild: run the transform from the raw export (deterministic)
  2. regenerate-and-commit: CI commits the rebuilt output back to the PR branch,
so the designer never runs Node; the pushed export is the only input
  3. validate: every semantic token exists in every mode (light AND dark);
no orphan references; token counts sane; no hand-edits to generated output survive
  4. explain: post the token diff (name: old -> new, and how many components it touches)
      v
A human reads the explained diff + green gates and merges (never auto-merged)

What this file has done since we first saw it

Hashed on every crawl. A supply-chain change to an agent config is a question of when, not whether, so the history is kept rather than the latest state alone.

design-tokens is a skill published in the GitHub repository Kemdirimakujuobi/skills (9 stars, last pushed 13d ago), licensed MIT. It adds 168 tokens to every session and 1,890 once invoked, about $0.0007 per session on Opus 5.5. A static security scan graded it A with 0 findings. No closer match exists in the catalogue, so it is treated as the original; first seen 2026-10-15.
