housekeep-files

housekeep-files is a skill for Claude Code from kensaurus/cursor-kenji. It costs 57 tokens per session (2,574 once invoked), scanned A, original, MIT.

A copy-not-move workflow for organizing personal or business document folders on disk or a synced drive. It inventories files, proposes layouts, creates labeled copies, catalogs them, and verifies that the originals remain.

In plain words
What is it for?
It helps sort Downloads, company folders, receipts, and other mixed document collections by owner, area, or document type.
Why use it?
It lowers the chance of losing or accidentally deleting documents during cleanup. The original tree stays complete, and deciding whether to retire duplicates remains a separate human action.

Token cost

What it costs to keep this loaded

Counted locally with the o200k_base tokenizer, which is exact for GPT models; Claude uses its own tokenizer and its counts differ. Treat this as one consistent yardstick across the catalogue rather than a bill. Prices are per million input tokens.

ModelPer sessionOnce invoked
Fable 5.1 $0.00057 $0.02574
Opus 5.5 $0.00023 $0.01030
Sonnet 5.5 $0.00011 $0.00515
Haiku 4.5 $0.00006 $0.00257

Measured 20d ago against content hash f764fc93fdb0, method: parsed. Prices are Anthropic first-party input rates as of 2026-10-07, from the pricing page.

Security

Grade A, and why

housekeep-files scanned grade A with 0 findings against 26 rules in 11 categories — prompt injection, anti-refusal, data exfiltration, privilege escalation, supply chain, agent snooping, system-prompt leakage, SSRF and excessive agency — measured 20d ago.

The scan reads SKILL.md. This mod also ships 2 executable files (scripts/housekeep-files.ps1, scripts/housekeep-files.sh), listed below but not scanned — reading those needs a real analyzer, not pattern matching.

A static scan of the body, not an audit. Every finding is printed with the line that produced it so you can judge whether it matters here. A mod is markdown that instructs an agent; that is exactly why what it instructs is worth reading.

Nothing flagged

None of the 26 patterns this scan looks for appear in this file: no shell pipes, no recursive deletes, no credential paths, no hidden text, no instruction-override or anti-refusal phrasing, no agent-config snooping. That is not a guarantee, it is the absence of the things that are checkable.

How it starts

The opening of the file, as written. The whole thing — 221 lines — stays where its author put it; the contents beside it link to each section on GitHub.

housekeep-files — File the documents, keep every original

Degree of freedom: MIXED. Which owner, area, and doc type a file belongs to, and which layout option fits the person [HIGH freedom]. The copy-not-move rule, the hash inventory before the first copy, and the verify gate [LOW freedom — run exactly].

Apply-now for one drifted file tree: a Downloads pile, a cloud folder named for one company that holds two, receipts spread across three places. The output is an added, labeled copy of the documents plus a catalog an agent can grep. The input tree is left complete. Retiring the duplicates later is a separate, human-run decision.

This skill vs neighbors

Skill Owns
housekeep-files (this) Personal / business document trees on disk or a synced drive
workflow-housekeep A git repository: README, dead artifacts, dependencies
housekeep-backlog Parked work register, not files
plan-data-integrity Database destructive-op safety
plan-secrets-audit Finding leaked keys; this skill only refuses to copy them

How to reason (every file)

  1. Owner — which legal entity or person pays for or signs this? Two companies are two sets of books, even when one person runs both; a CV or an ID scan belongs to neither company.
  2. Area — company / finance / product / client / site / tax / identity.
  3. Doc type and date — invoice, receipt, contract, tax-return, payroll, registration, lease, cv, brand, plan, correspondence, other. Date from the filename first, then the parent folder, else undated.
  4. Copy or index — signing keys, credentials, media over the size cap, installers: never copied, only cataloged where they already are.

An ambiguous file goes to 90_inbox with its best-guess tags. Guessing an owner wrong files company A's receipt under company B; 90_inbox files it nowhere wrong.

Worked example

Owner: Form 9 - Certificate.pdf sits in a folder named for company B; the form is company B's incorporation paper → acme-uk. Area / type: company / registration; no date in the name → undated. Copy or index: PDF, 80 KB → copy. Label: acme-uk_company_undated_registration__Form 9 - Certificate.pdf — original name kept after __ so the old string still matches search. Catalog line: entity, area, doc_type, tags ["acme","companies-house","incorporation"], original_path, canonical_path, sha256, persist: copied-source-kept. Neighbor: AuthKey_XXXX.p8 in an app folder → indexed-in-place, reason secret; the catalog records its folder, not its bytes.

Changes

What this file has done since we first saw it

Hashed on every crawl. A supply-chain change to an agent config is a question of when, not whether, so the history is kept rather than the latest state alone.

housekeep-files is a skill published in the GitHub repository kensaurus/cursor-kenji (9 stars, last pushed 18d ago), licensed MIT. It adds 57 tokens to every session and 2,574 once invoked, about $0.0002 per session on Opus 5.5. A static security scan graded it A with 0 findings. No closer match exists in the catalogue, so it is treated as the original; first seen 2026-09-27.
