paw-persistence-contracts-layer

paw-persistence-contracts-layer is a skill for Codex from keodubo/PAW-Wiki. It costs 49 tokens per session (422 once invoked), scanned A, original, MIT.

A guide for defining the interfaces that application services use to access stored data. These interfaces hide whether the data is handled with JDBC, which is direct SQL access, or JPA, a Java database-mapping system.

In plain words
What is it for?
Use it when creating or changing DAO interfaces, pagination and filtering contracts, batch operations, or tests for the persistence-contracts Maven module.
Why use it?
It prevents database-specific code from leaking into service logic and keeps the same data-access contract usable during the project's technology changes.

Token cost

What it costs to keep this loaded

Counted locally with the o200k_base tokenizer, which is exact for GPT models; Claude uses its own tokenizer and its counts differ. Treat this as one consistent yardstick across the catalogue rather than a bill. Prices are per million input tokens.

ModelPer sessionOnce invoked
Fable 5.1 $0.00049 $0.00422
Opus 5 $0.00024 $0.00211
Sonnet 5 $0.00010 $0.00084
Haiku 4.5 $0.00005 $0.00042

Security

Grade A, and why

paw-persistence-contracts-layer scanned grade A with 0 findings against 26 rules in 11 categories — prompt injection, anti-refusal, data exfiltration, privilege escalation, supply chain, agent snooping, system-prompt leakage, SSRF and excessive agency — measured 11d ago.

A static scan of the body, not an audit. Every finding is printed with the line that produced it so you can judge whether it matters here. A mod is markdown that instructs an agent; that is exactly why what it instructs is worth reading.

Nothing flagged

None of the 26 patterns this scan looks for appear in this file: no shell pipes, no recursive deletes, no credential paths, no hidden text, no instruction-override or anti-refusal phrasing, no agent-config snooping. That is not a guarantee, it is the absence of the things that are checkable.

What it actually says

Paw Persistence Contracts Layer

Overview

Use this for persistence-contracts/, the module that lets services depend on DAO abstractions instead of JDBC implementations.

Read references/layer-rules.md before changing DAO contracts.

Workflow

  1. Inspect existing DAO interfaces in persistence-contracts/src/main/java/ar/edu/itba/paw/persistence.
  2. Resolve stage: TP1 contracts must be implementable with JDBC SQL; TP2 contracts may be implemented by JPA but still must not leak ORM details.
  3. Define the contract from the service use case, not from a planned SQL/JPA implementation.
  4. Keep signatures free of java.sql, JdbcTemplate, row mappers, EntityManager, JPQL strings, servlet/web types, and implementation classes.
  5. Prefer PageRequest, sort/filter domain objects, and domain return types over loose offset/limit or raw maps.
  6. Add batch contracts when a web/service flow would otherwise call a DAO once per row.
  7. Update persistence implementation and tests in the same feature slice unless the user explicitly asks for contracts only.

Contract Rules

  • One table should have one owning DAO for writes.
  • DAO contracts can expose query intent but not SQL plumbing.
  • Return empty lists/pages instead of null.
  • Use Optional only if the existing DAO style supports it for that absence case.
  • Keep names behavior-oriented: findByRestaurantId, countFeedReviews, findReassignableForReservations.

Verification

  • Contract-only compile: mvn -pl persistence-contracts -am test.
  • Contract plus JDBC implementation: mvn -pl persistence -am test.
  • Contract used by services/webapp: mvn -pl webapp -am test or broader.

Changes

What this file has done since we first saw it

Hashed on every crawl. A supply-chain change to an agent config is a question of when, not whether, so the history is kept rather than the latest state alone.

paw-persistence-contracts-layer is a skill published in the GitHub repository keodubo/PAW-Wiki (10 stars, last pushed 1mo ago), licensed MIT. It adds 49 tokens to every session and 422 once invoked, about $0.0002 per session on Opus 5. A static security scan graded it A with 0 findings. No closer match exists in the catalogue, so it is treated as the original; first seen 2026-08-31.
