powerbi-documentation

powerbi-documentation is a skill for Claude Code, Codex from Kilo-Org/kilo-marketplace. It costs 77 tokens per session (9,679 once invoked), scanned A, original, Apache-2.0.

A guide for creating standardized documentation for Power BI semantic models and reports. A semantic model is the structured layer that defines tables, relationships, and measures behind a report.

In plain words
What is it for?
Use it to document Power BI projects, models, and reports, including tables, measures, relationships, calculation groups, file details, and modification dates.
Why use it?
It provides a consistent process for collecting model details and producing documentation, including an interactive question-and-answer workflow.

Token cost

What it costs to keep this loaded

Counted locally with the o200k_base tokenizer, which is exact for GPT models; Claude uses its own tokenizer and its counts differ. Treat this as one consistent yardstick across the catalogue rather than a bill. Prices are per million input tokens.

ModelPer sessionOnce invoked
Fable 5.1 $0.00077 $0.09679
Opus 5 $0.00039 $0.04840
Sonnet 5 $0.00015 $0.01936
Haiku 4.5 $0.00008 $0.00968

Security

Grade A, and why

powerbi-documentation scanned grade A with 0 findings against 26 rules in 11 categories — prompt injection, anti-refusal, data exfiltration, privilege escalation, supply chain, agent snooping, system-prompt leakage, SSRF and excessive agency — measured 7d ago.

A static scan of the body, not an audit. Every finding is printed with the line that produced it so you can judge whether it matters here. A mod is markdown that instructs an agent; that is exactly why what it instructs is worth reading.

Nothing flagged

None of the 26 patterns this scan looks for appear in this file: no shell pipes, no recursive deletes, no credential paths, no hidden text, no instruction-override or anti-refusal phrasing, no agent-config snooping. That is not a guarantee, it is the absence of the things that are checkable.

Power BI Documentation Skill

Generate comprehensive, standardized documentation for Power BI semantic models using an interactive workflow.

Prerequisites

Before starting documentation, ensure:

  1. The powerbi-modeling-mcp server is connected and available
  2. Connection to the target semantic model is established (Power BI Desktop, Fabric workspace, or PBIP folder)

Interactive Documentation Workflow

CRITICAL: This skill uses a conversational approach. The assistant MUST ask questions one at a time and wait for user responses before proceeding. Do NOT generate the document until all questions are answered. All questions use numbered options (1/2/3/...) for consistency — never use Yes/No style answers.

Phase 1: Connect and Gather Metadata

Before asking any questions, the assistant should:

  1. Connect to the semantic model using connection_operations
  2. Gather basic model information using model_operations:
    • Model name
    • Table count (and table names for classification)
    • Measure count (including display folders)
    • Relationship count
    • File name (for document title)
    • Last modified date
  3. Check for calculation groups using calculation_group_operations (ListGroups)
  4. Classify tables by analyzing naming conventions and structure:
    • Fact tables (e.g., fact_*, fct_*, or tables with numeric measures and foreign keys)
    • Dimension tables (e.g., dim_*, d_*, or lookup/reference tables)
    • Parameter tables (e.g., para_*, param_*, or tables with What-If parameters)
    • Bridge/mapping tables
    • Date tables
    • Calculated tables
    • Other/Utility tables

This information is needed to ask informed questions and provide sensible defaults.

Phase 2: Interactive Configuration

Start the interactive configuration with welcoming the user to the 'The Data Forest's interactive Power BI documentation generator'. Then ask these questions one at a time, waiting for user response before proceeding to the next.

Changes

What this file has done since we first saw it

Hashed on every crawl. A supply-chain change to an agent config is a question of when, not whether, so the history is kept rather than the latest state alone.
