status-update

status-update is a skill for Claude Code, Codex from kintecus/build. It costs 33 tokens per session (293 once invoked), scanned A, original, MIT.

A guide for drafting a concise project status update from project records. It organises the update around progress, decisions, blockers or risks, and next steps for stakeholders.

In plain words
What is it for?
Use it for weekly reports, stakeholder updates, project-progress messages, and other short communications about current work.
Why use it?
It turns scattered project context into a focused communication for busy readers. It keeps important risks and decisions visible without requiring a long report.

Token cost

What it costs to keep this loaded

Counted locally with the o200k_base tokenizer, which is exact for GPT models; Claude uses its own tokenizer and its counts differ. Treat this as one consistent yardstick across the catalogue rather than a bill. Prices are per million input tokens.

ModelPer sessionOnce invoked
Fable 5 $0.00033 $0.00293
Opus 5 $0.00016 $0.00147
Sonnet 5 $0.00007 $0.00059
Haiku 4.5 $0.00003 $0.00029

Measured 3d ago against content hash 7eaa94fde244, method: parsed. Prices are Anthropic first-party input rates as of 2026-08-30, from the pricing page.

Security

Grade A, and why

status-update scanned grade A with 0 findings against 26 rules in 11 categories — prompt injection, anti-refusal, data exfiltration, privilege escalation, supply chain, agent snooping, system-prompt leakage, SSRF and excessive agency — measured 3d ago.

A static scan of the body, not an audit. Every finding is printed with the line that produced it so you can judge whether it matters here. A mod is markdown that instructs an agent; that is exactly why what it instructs is worth reading.

Nothing flagged

None of the 26 patterns this scan looks for appear in this file: no shell pipes, no recursive deletes, no credential paths, no hidden text, no instruction-override or anti-refusal phrasing, no agent-config snooping. That is not a guarantee, it is the absence of the things that are checkable.

What it actually says

Status Update

Draft a stakeholder update from the project's current context.

Context gathering

Before drafting, read:

  1. The project's STATUS.md for current state
  2. Recent files in decisions/ for key decisions
  3. Recent files in comms/ for prior updates and context

Output format

Draft a concise status update covering:

  • Progress: What moved forward since the last update
  • Decisions: Key decisions made and their rationale (brief)
  • Blockers/risks: What's stuck or at risk, and what's being done about it
  • Next steps: What's coming, with rough timeline

Tone and style

  • Professional but not corporate. Clear, specific, no fluff.
  • Assume the audience is busy and technical.
  • Lead with the most important information.
  • Under 300 words unless the user says otherwise.
  • No process theater - skip anything that doesn't inform or require action.

After drafting

Present the draft for review. Ask if the tone, level of detail, and emphasis are right for the specific audience. Adjust based on feedback.

Save the final version to comms/ with date prefix: YYYY-MM-DD-status-update.md.

Changes

What this file has done since we first saw it

Hashed on every crawl. A supply-chain change to an agent config is a question of when, not whether, so the history is kept rather than the latest state alone.
