check-version-exists

check-version-exists is a skill for Claude Code from kirich1409/krozov-ai-tools. It costs 87 tokens per session (512 once invoked), scanned A, original, MIT.

A checker for whether one exact version of a Maven library has been published in a repository.

In plain words
What is it for?
Use it to confirm a group, artifact, and version coordinate, and to see which repository provided the answer.
Why use it?
It helps distinguish an unavailable version from a valid one before you change a build file.

Token cost

What it costs to keep this loaded

Counted locally with the o200k_base tokenizer, which is exact for GPT models; Claude uses its own tokenizer and its counts differ. Treat this as one consistent yardstick across the catalogue rather than a bill. Prices are per million input tokens.

ModelPer sessionOnce invoked
Fable 5.1 $0.00087 $0.00512
Opus 5 $0.00044 $0.00256
Sonnet 5 $0.00017 $0.00102
Haiku 4.5 $0.00009 $0.00051

Security

Grade A, and why

check-version-exists scanned grade A with 0 findings against 26 rules in 11 categories — prompt injection, anti-refusal, data exfiltration, privilege escalation, supply chain, agent snooping, system-prompt leakage, SSRF and excessive agency — measured 10d ago.

A static scan of the body, not an audit. Every finding is printed with the line that produced it so you can judge whether it matters here. A mod is markdown that instructs an agent; that is exactly why what it instructs is worth reading.

Nothing flagged

None of the 26 patterns this scan looks for appear in this file: no shell pipes, no recursive deletes, no credential paths, no hidden text, no instruction-override or anti-refusal phrasing, no agent-config snooping. That is not a guarantee, it is the absence of the things that are checkable.

What it actually says

Check Version Exists

Confirm whether one specific, already-known version of a Maven artifact exists in any resolvable repository.

Steps

  1. Parse groupId, artifactId, version from the user's input (e.g. com.squareup.okhttp3:okhttp:4.12.0, or a groupId:artifactId plus a version mentioned in conversation).

  2. Call check_version_exists with:

    • groupId, artifactId, version
    • optional projectPath when the user is inside a project (uses declared repos)
  3. Present the result:

    • exists: true — show stability and repository (which repo answered), and relocatedTo when present (the artifact was relocated via a Maven <distributionManagement> POM — tell the user the new coordinates).
    • exists: false — tell the user the version was not found in any resolvable repository. Do not guess a reason; offer /latest-version to check what is available, or /search-artifacts if the artifact name itself may be wrong.

Error handling

Tool error / not found → report as-is, do not invent a version or existence status from memory.

Constraints and non-goals

  • Not for "what's the latest version of X" — use /latest-version.
  • Not for "is my current version behind latest" — use /compare-dependency-versions.
  • Not for checking many artifacts at once — use /check-multiple-versions.

Fallback (MCP unavailable only)

Fetch maven-metadata.xml from public repos (Maven Central → Google Maven → Gradle Plugin Portal) and check whether version is present in the <versions> list. Note that this skips project-declared private repos and relocation detection.

Changes

What this file has done since we first saw it

Hashed on every crawl. A supply-chain change to an agent config is a question of when, not whether, so the history is kept rather than the latest state alone.
