expand-bom

expand-bom is a skill for Claude Code from kirich1409/krozov-ai-tools. It costs 69 tokens per session (421 once invoked), scanned A, original, MIT.

A dependency-version lookup tool for Maven BOMs and Gradle platforms. A BOM, or Bill of Materials, is a file that specifies compatible versions for a group of software libraries.

In plain words
What is it for?
It helps developers expand a BOM into its complete list of managed library versions and filter that list by group or artifact.
Why use it?
It removes the need to open dependency files and manually trace which library versions are managed.

Token cost

What it costs to keep this loaded

Counted locally with the o200k_base tokenizer, which is exact for GPT models; Claude uses its own tokenizer and its counts differ. Treat this as one consistent yardstick across the catalogue rather than a bill. Prices are per million input tokens.

ModelPer sessionOnce invoked
Fable 5.1 $0.00069 $0.00421
Opus 5 $0.00034 $0.00211
Sonnet 5 $0.00014 $0.00084
Haiku 4.5 $0.00007 $0.00042

Security

Grade A, and why

expand-bom scanned grade A with 0 findings against 26 rules in 11 categories — prompt injection, anti-refusal, data exfiltration, privilege escalation, supply chain, agent snooping, system-prompt leakage, SSRF and excessive agency — measured 10d ago.

A static scan of the body, not an audit. Every finding is printed with the line that produced it so you can judge whether it matters here. A mod is markdown that instructs an agent; that is exactly why what it instructs is worth reading.

Nothing flagged

None of the 26 patterns this scan looks for appear in this file: no shell pipes, no recursive deletes, no credential paths, no hidden text, no instruction-override or anti-refusal phrasing, no agent-config snooping. That is not a guarantee, it is the absence of the things that are checkable.

What it actually says

Expand BOM

Expand a Maven BOM (Bill of Materials) or Gradle platform() coordinate into the full set of dependency versions it manages.

Steps

  1. Parse groupId, artifactId, version for the BOM coordinate (for example org.springframework.boot:spring-boot-dependencies:3.2.5, io.ktor:ktor-bom:3.1.3).

  2. Call expand_bom with groupId, artifactId, version, and optional projectPath.

  3. Present the managed list (groupId:artifactId → version). For a long BOM (Spring Boot manages hundreds of entries), let the user filter — ask which group(s) or artifact(s) they care about rather than dumping the entire list unprompted.

Import-scope BOMs referenced by the target BOM are expanded recursively with first-wins merge order (an entry already seen is never overwritten by a nested import) — the same semantics as Maven's own dependency-management resolution.

Error handling

  • BOM POM not found / not a BOM → say so; do not fabricate managed versions.
  • A managed entry with an unresolved ${...} property is skipped, not guessed.

Fallback (MCP unavailable only)

Fetch the BOM's POM directly and parse <dependencyManagement><dependencies> (plus parent POM properties for ${...} interpolation) by hand. State that recursive import-BOM expansion and property interpolation across parents are error-prone to reproduce manually.

Changes

What this file has done since we first saw it

Hashed on every crawl. A supply-chain change to an agent config is a question of when, not whether, so the history is kept rather than the latest state alone.
