scientific-writing: Skill for Claude Code

.claude/skills/update/SKILL.md

update is a skill for Claude Code from koljaschoepe/scientific-writing. It costs 35 tokens per session (562 once invoked), scanned A, original, MIT.

A project-update helper that checks for a newer version of the Scientific Writing Kit and can apply it. It limits changes to files listed by the kit, leaving your work and personal add-ons alone.

In plain words
What is it for?
Use it to check for updates, review what changed, and install a selected kit version after saving first if needed.
Why use it?
It helps keep the kit current without replacing your documents, data, or custom settings. It also warns when kit files have unsaved changes or when an update removes a changed file.

This is koljaschoepe/scientific-writing's own configuration. It tells Claude Code how to work on scientific-writing itself, so it is not a mod to install elsewhere. Copy it as a starting point and replace the rules that are about this project. Everything scientific-writing configures →

Token cost

What it costs to keep this loaded

Counted locally with the o200k_base tokenizer, which is exact for GPT models; Claude uses its own tokenizer and its counts differ. Treat this as one consistent yardstick across the catalogue rather than a bill. Prices are per million input tokens.

ModelPer sessionOnce invoked
Fable 5.1 $0.00035 $0.00562
Opus 5.5 $0.00014 $0.00225
Sonnet 5.5 $0.00007 $0.00112
Haiku 4.5 $0.00003 $0.00056

Measured 26d ago against content hash b3054515f4e6, method: parsed. Prices are Anthropic first-party input rates as of 2026-10-07, from the pricing page.

Security

Grade A, and why

update scanned grade A with 0 findings against 26 rules in 11 categories — prompt injection, anti-refusal, data exfiltration, privilege escalation, supply chain, agent snooping, system-prompt leakage, SSRF and excessive agency — measured 26d ago.

A static scan of the body, not an audit. Every finding is printed with the line that produced it so you can judge whether it matters here. A mod is markdown that instructs an agent; that is exactly why what it instructs is worth reading.

Nothing flagged

None of the 26 patterns this scan looks for appear in this file: no shell pipes, no recursive deletes, no credential paths, no hidden text, no instruction-override or anti-refusal phrasing, no agent-config snooping. That is not a guarantee, it is the absence of the things that are checkable.

What it actually says

/update: Neue Kit-Version holen

Ablauf

  1. node .claude/kit/werkzeuge/update.mjs --check --json.
  4. Bei Ja: node .claude/kit/werkzeuge/update.mjs --json.
    • code 4: ungesicherte Änderungen in Kit-Dateien. Erklären, /sync vorschlagen.
    • code 0: melden. „Neue oder geänderte Befehle wirken nach einem Neustart von Claude.“ Betrifft es das Dashboard: node .claude/kit/dashboard/server.mjs --stoppen, dann --starten.
    • code 1: einfach erklären, nichts wurde verändert.
  5. Interview: „Hochladen mit /sync (Empfohlen)“, „Weiterarbeiten“, „Rückgängig machen“ (dann git log -3 --oneline ansehen und jeden Eintrag „Kit-Update“ bzw. „Kit-Manifest“ mit git revert --no-edit <id> zurücknehmen, neuester zuerst).

What this file has done since we first saw it

Hashed on every crawl. A supply-chain change to an agent config is a question of when, not whether, so the history is kept rather than the latest state alone.
