local-vision-router is a skill for Codex from krunkosaurus/codex-local-vision-router. It costs 71 tokens per session (377 once invoked), scanned A, original, MIT.

Instructions for inspecting local image files through a configured vision service and returning a text description or reading of what they contain.

In plain words
What is it for?
Use it to describe images, transcribe visible text, review interface layout, check visual states, and identify clipping, contrast, or alignment issues.
Why use it?
They let a text-only coding agent review screenshots and other images without guessing about visual details.

Token cost

What it costs to keep this loaded

Counted locally with the o200k_base tokenizer, which is exact for GPT models; Claude uses its own tokenizer and its counts differ. Treat this as one consistent yardstick across the catalogue rather than a bill. Prices are per million input tokens.

ModelPer sessionOnce invoked
Fable 5.1 $0.00071 $0.00377
Opus 5 $0.00036 $0.00188
Sonnet 5 $0.00014 $0.00075
Haiku 4.5 $0.00007 $0.00038

Security

Grade A, and why

local-vision-router scanned grade A with 0 findings against 26 rules in 11 categories — prompt injection, anti-refusal, data exfiltration, privilege escalation, supply chain, agent snooping, system-prompt leakage, SSRF and excessive agency — measured 9d ago.

A static scan of the body, not an audit. Every finding is printed with the line that produced it so you can judge whether it matters here. A mod is markdown that instructs an agent; that is exactly why what it instructs is worth reading.

Nothing flagged

None of the 26 patterns this scan looks for appear in this file: no shell pipes, no recursive deletes, no credential paths, no hidden text, no instruction-override or anti-refusal phrasing, no agent-config snooping. That is not a guarantee, it is the absence of the things that are checkable.

What it actually says

Local Vision Router

Use local_vision.describe_image as the only pixel-reading tool in a text-only primary-model session. The tool sends the local image to the configured vision endpoint and returns a bounded plain-text observation.

Workflow

  1. Resolve the requested image to an absolute local path.
  2. Call local_vision.describe_image with image_path and a focused prompt.
  3. Use the returned text as visual evidence in the answer.
  4. State uncertainty when the vision response is ambiguous.

For a general inspection, request the main subject, composition, visible text, and uncertainty. For OCR, request exact transcription and preserve line breaks. For UI review, request layout, states, errors, clipping, contrast, and alignment.

Text-only boundary

  • Do not call Codex's built-in view_image tool in a text-only session.
  • Do not attach or embed image data in the primary model request.
  • If no absolute path is available, ask the user to save the image locally and provide its path.
  • Never infer details absent from the tool response.

Failures

  • If the endpoint is unavailable, tell the user to start its local server and load the configured vision model.
  • If the tool reports a relative path, retry only after resolving an absolute path.
  • If the primary session already contains an incompatible image block, start a new session rather than resuming the poisoned history.
Files

What ships with it

Changes

What this file has done since we first saw it

Hashed on every crawl. A supply-chain change to an agent config is a question of when, not whether, so the history is kept rather than the latest state alone.
