kumiho-onboard

kumiho-onboard is a skill for Claude Code, Codex from KumihoIO/kumiho-plugins. It costs 66 tokens per session (1,233 once invoked), scanned A, original, MIT.

A setup and repair workflow for Kumiho Memory, a memory backend used by coding assistants. It configures the local state, chooses cloud or self-hosted storage, handles sign-in, and verifies the connection.

In plain words
What is it for?
It helps install or reconnect Kumiho Memory, switch between its cloud and self-hosted versions, and check that memory skills and authentication work.
Why use it?
Missing tools, expired sign-in, or a changed backend can prevent the assistant from reading or saving memories. This guides the configuration without requiring credentials to be pasted into chat.

Token cost

What it costs to keep this loaded

Counted locally with the o200k_base tokenizer, which is exact for GPT models; Claude uses its own tokenizer and its counts differ. Treat this as one consistent yardstick across the catalogue rather than a bill. Prices are per million input tokens.

ModelPer sessionOnce invoked
Fable 5.1 $0.00066 $0.01233
Opus 5 $0.00033 $0.00616
Sonnet 5 $0.00013 $0.00247
Haiku 4.5 $0.00007 $0.00123

Security

Grade A, and why

kumiho-onboard scanned grade A with 0 findings against 26 rules in 11 categories — prompt injection, anti-refusal, data exfiltration, privilege escalation, supply chain, agent snooping, system-prompt leakage, SSRF and excessive agency — measured 7d ago.

A static scan of the body, not an audit. Every finding is printed with the line that produced it so you can judge whether it matters here. A mod is markdown that instructs an agent; that is exactly why what it instructs is worth reading.

Nothing flagged

None of the 26 patterns this scan looks for appear in this file: no shell pipes, no recursive deletes, no credential paths, no hidden text, no instruction-override or anti-refusal phrasing, no agent-config snooping. That is not a guarantee, it is the absence of the things that are checkable.

Kumiho Memory Onboarding (Codex)

Configure the native Codex plugin end to end: the ~/.kumiho state root and ~/.kumiho/venv runtime shared with Claude and Kumiho Desktop, backend, authentication, skill ingestion, and verification. This is the Codex equivalent of Claude's /kumiho-onboard, implemented without changing Claude settings.

Absolute secret boundary

Never ask the user to paste a password, API token, refresh token, private key, or other credential into chat. Never place one in a command argument, environment assignment, tool input, memory capture, or response. If a secret appears in chat, do not repeat or reflect it; tell the user to rotate it.

Cloud login is permitted only in a terminal controlled directly by the user. The Python SDK owns token parsing, its shared credential cache, refresh, login, official discovery, and regional routing. Official discovery uses the shared, origin-specific ~/.kumiho/official-cloud/discovery-cache.json, never the legacy ~/.kumiho/discovery-cache.json. Its bundled login masks the password. This skill and its setup helper accept no token argument. They may pass an already-present KUMIHO_AUTH_TOKEN to the SDK verbatim, but must never read, transform, print, or capture its value.

Resolve the installed entrypoint

Derive PLUGIN_ROOT from this skill's own path: it is two directories above the containing kumiho-onboard directory (SKILL_MD.parent.parent.parent). Use the absolute path to PLUGIN_ROOT/scripts/run_kumiho_mcp.mjs; never assume the repository checkout or a versioned cache path.

Run the helper only through Node so Python discovery is identical to MCP startup:

node <absolute-plugin-root>/scripts/run_kumiho_mcp.mjs --onboard ...

Flow

  1. Determine the backend from the user's request.
    • cloud, managed, or Kumiho Cloud means Cloud.
    • ce, community, self-hosted, or local means CE.
    • If absent, do not ask. Run --onboard auto --non-interactive; the helper reuses an existing Codex choice, then checks cached Cloud auth, then local CE, and otherwise selects Cloud.
  2. For Cloud, run:

Hashed on every crawl. A supply-chain change to an agent config is a question of when, not whether, so the history is kept rather than the latest state alone.
