kx-flex-panel

kx-flex-panel is a skill for Claude Code from KxSystems/kx-skills. It costs 58 tokens per session (1,512 once invoked), scanned A, original, Apache-2.0.

A guide for KX Dashboards FlexPanel layouts, which place one fixed region beside or above a flexible main area. The fixed region can be a header, footer, or sidebar.

In plain words
What is it for?
Use it for dashboards with a pinned header, footer, or sidebar and a main area that expands to fill the remaining space.
Why use it?
It prevents layout mistakes involving child order, orientation, sizing, and the required two-widget structure.

Token cost

What it costs to keep this loaded

Counted locally with the o200k_base tokenizer, which is exact for GPT models; Claude uses its own tokenizer and its counts differ. Treat this as one consistent yardstick across the catalogue rather than a bill. Prices are per million input tokens.

ModelPer sessionOnce invoked
Fable 5.1 $0.00058 $0.01512
Opus 5 $0.00029 $0.00756
Sonnet 5 $0.00012 $0.00302
Haiku 4.5 $0.00006 $0.00151

Security

Grade A, and why

kx-flex-panel scanned grade A with 0 findings against 26 rules in 11 categories — prompt injection, anti-refusal, data exfiltration, privilege escalation, supply chain, agent snooping, system-prompt leakage, SSRF and excessive agency — measured 11d ago.

A static scan of the body, not an audit. Every finding is printed with the line that produced it so you can judge whether it matters here. A mod is markdown that instructs an agent; that is exactly why what it instructs is worth reading.

Nothing flagged

None of the 26 patterns this scan looks for appear in this file: no shell pipes, no recursive deletes, no credential paths, no hidden text, no instruction-override or anti-refusal phrasing, no agent-config snooping. That is not a guarantee, it is the absence of the things that are checkable.

FlexPanel — Fixed Region + Flexible Content

key: "FlexPanel" · definitionId: "1011"

Also read kx-dashboard-core for envelope, screen/widget wrapper, data sources, and ViewState.

When to Use

Use FlexPanel when the user asks for a pinned/fixed header, footer, or sidebar. For all other layouts use Panel (definitionId: "50").

⚠️ Hazards

  1. Fixed region is always widgets[0], main content is always widgets[1] — this applies to every orientation without exception.
  2. horizontalbottom is counter-intuitive — the footer is widgets[0] even though it renders at the bottom of the screen. The layout value controls screen position, not array order.
  3. Exactly 2 children — a third widget will not render.
  4. "row": null, "column": null on every child layout — but rowSpan/colSpan are still required.
  5. minSize is pixels, not grid units. Typical: 60120 header, 4060 footer, 200280 sidebar.

Ordering Rule

widgets[0] → fixed region Text, Dropdown, Button, SelectionControls,
                            NavigationMenu, DatePicker, Breadcrumbs,
                            PlayBack, DataFilter, TreeView

widgets[1] → main content Datagrid, ChartGL, Datatable, PieJS,
                            Heatmap, Panel, Tabs, nested FlexPanel

The layout option only sets where the fixed region appears on screen:

layout Fixed region renders at
"horizontaltop" Top (header)
"horizontalbottom" Bottom (footer) — widgets[0] is still first in array
"verticalleft" Left sidebar
"verticalright" Right sidebar

What this file has done since we first saw it

Hashed on every crawl. A supply-chain change to an agent config is a question of when, not whether, so the history is kept rather than the latest state alone.
