specsmith: Skill for Claude Code

.agents/skills/aider-integration/SKILL.md

aider-integration is a skill for Claude Code, Codex from layer1labs/specsmith. It costs 0 tokens per session (360 once invoked), scanned A, original, MIT.

A set of instructions that connects the Aider coding assistant to Specsmith governance. Aider is a tool that helps edit software through an AI-assisted coding session.

In plain words
What is it for?
Use it to configure Aider with the right project files, run audits and preflight checks, manage checkpoints, and save governed changes.
Why use it?
It makes Aider follow project checks before changes and save session records afterward, including guidance for its automatic Git commits.

Which agent this was written for is unclear — built for aider. Also seen: installed under .agents/ (shared by several agents); mentions AGENTS.md; built for aider.

This is layer1labs/specsmith's own configuration. It tells Claude Code and Codex how to work on specsmith itself, so it is not a mod to install elsewhere. Copy it as a starting point and replace the rules that are about this project. Everything specsmith configures →

Token cost

What it costs to keep this loaded

Counted locally with the o200k_base tokenizer, which is exact for GPT models; Claude uses its own tokenizer and its counts differ. Treat this as one consistent yardstick across the catalogue rather than a bill. Prices are per million input tokens.

ModelPer sessionOnce invoked
Fable 5.1 $0.00000 $0.00360
Opus 5.5 $0.00000 $0.00144
Sonnet 5.5 $0.00000 $0.00072
Haiku 4.5 $0.00000 $0.00036

Measured 2mo ago against content hash 1bd8fff7b5e1, method: parsed. Prices are Anthropic first-party input rates as of 2026-10-07, from the pricing page.

Security

Grade A, and why

aider-integration scanned grade A with 0 findings against 26 rules in 11 categories — prompt injection, anti-refusal, data exfiltration, privilege escalation, supply chain, agent snooping, system-prompt leakage, SSRF and excessive agency — measured 2mo ago.

A static scan of the body, not an audit. Every finding is printed with the line that produced it so you can judge whether it matters here. A mod is markdown that instructs an agent; that is exactly why what it instructs is worth reading.

Nothing flagged

None of the 26 patterns this scan looks for appear in this file: no shell pipes, no recursive deletes, no credential paths, no hidden text, no instruction-override or anti-refusal phrasing, no agent-config snooping. That is not a guarantee, it is the absence of the things that are checkable.

What it actually says

Aider — specsmith Governance Integration

One-time setup

specsmith integrate aider # generates .aider.conf.yml

Manual: add to .aider.conf.yml:

read:
  - AGENTS.md
  - .agents/skills/specsmith/SKILL.md
  - .agents/skills/specsmith-session-governance/SKILL.md
  - .agents/skills/specsmith-save/SKILL.md

Or pass at startup:

aider --read AGENTS.md --read .agents/skills/specsmith-session-governance/SKILL.md

Every Aider session — mandatory protocol

  1. Run before starting aider:
specsmith kill-session # idempotent; safe when no processes exist
specsmith audit --project-dir .
specsmith sync --project-dir .
specsmith checkpoint --project-dir .
  1. Tell aider the governance anchor before any request: "Session anchor: [paste checkpoint output here]. Use preflight before changes."
  2. Before aider makes code changes, verify preflight in a separate terminal: specsmith preflight "<intent>" --json
  3. After aider commits, run: specsmith save to add ESDB backup.

Note

Aider auto-commits via git. For full governance, configure aider with --no-auto-commits and manage commits through specsmith save instead.

Key files

  • .aider.conf.yml — aider configuration (reads AGENTS.md + skills)
  • AGENTS.md — universal governance hub
  • .agents/skills/ — skills loaded via read: in aider config
Changes

What this file has done since we first saw it

Hashed on every crawl. A supply-chain change to an agent config is a question of when, not whether, so the history is kept rather than the latest state alone.

aider-integration is a skill published in the GitHub repository layer1labs/specsmith (8 stars, last pushed 1mo ago), licensed MIT. It costs nothing until one of its globs matches a file; then it loads 360 tokens. A static security scan graded it A with 0 findings. No closer match exists in the catalogue, so it is treated as the original; first seen 2026-08-31.
