claude-context: Skill for Claude Code

.agents/skills/context-drift/SKILL.md

context-drift is a skill for Claude Code, Codex from lbruton/claude-context. It costs 197 tokens per session (2,715 once invoked), scanned A, original, MIT.

A maintenance check for a project's .context documents, which are in-repository notes about its architecture, infrastructure, and working rules. It compares those notes with the actual source code and suggests missing recurring knowledge.

In plain words
What is it for?
Use it to check context documents for drift, review suggested additions, or open a workflow to apply fixes. It reports by default rather than changing files automatically.
Why use it?
Project documentation can become inaccurate as code changes. This audit identifies claims that no longer match the code and surfaces useful patterns or decisions that are not documented.

This is lbruton/claude-context's own configuration. It tells Claude Code and Codex how to work on claude-context itself, so it is not a mod to install elsewhere. Copy it as a starting point and replace the rules that are about this project. Everything claude-context configures →

Token cost

What it costs to keep this loaded

Counted locally with the o200k_base tokenizer, which is exact for GPT models; Claude uses its own tokenizer and its counts differ. Treat this as one consistent yardstick across the catalogue rather than a bill. Prices are per million input tokens.

ModelPer sessionOnce invoked
Fable 5.1 $0.00197 $0.02715
Opus 5.5 $0.00079 $0.01086
Sonnet 5.5 $0.00039 $0.00543
Haiku 4.5 $0.00020 $0.00271

Security

Grade A, and why

context-drift scanned grade A with 1 finding against 26 rules in 11 categories — prompt injection, anti-refusal, data exfiltration, privilege escalation, supply chain, agent snooping, system-prompt leakage, SSRF and excessive agency — measured 5d ago.

A static scan of the body, not an audit. Every finding is printed with the line that produced it so you can judge whether it matters here. A mod is markdown that instructs an agent; that is exactly why what it instructs is worth reading.

Reads agent configuration directorieslowAgent snooping

.claude/, .codex/, .gemini/ hold keys, settings and other credentials a mod has no legitimate need for.

cat .claude/project.json 2>/dev/null # -> name

Downgraded: this mod is about security review, or the phrase is quoted, so it is likely naming the pattern rather than instructing it.

Context Drift

Audits a project's in-repo .context/ foundation docs against source-code truth, and proposes what should be captured but isn't. This is the maintenance counterpart to /setup-foundation-context (which does the one-time migration). Once a project's foundation docs live in .context/, this skill — not /vault-drift — keeps them honest.

Two jobs:

  1. Drift audit — every factual claim in .context/ verified against code. Source wins.
  2. Promotion candidates — recurring patterns, gotchas, and decisions present in the code or recent work but missing from .context/ / CLAUDE.md. Surfaced as suggestions, never auto-added.

Relationship to /vault-drift

/vault-drift was retired in DEVS-78 (2026-09-28). The DocVault Foundation/ pages it audited stay in the frozen archive, and every active project keeps foundation docs in .context/. This skill is the only drift audit. A revived backburner project runs /setup-foundation-context first.

Arguments

  • [project] — project name. Auto-detected from .claude/project.json if omitted.
  • --apply — open the fix workflow after the report. Default is report-only.
  • --doc <name> — audit a single .context/ doc.
  • --no-promote — skip the promotion-candidate scan (drift audit only).

Phase 0: Project discovery

cat .claude/project.json 2>/dev/null   # -> name
ls .context/*.md 2>/dev/null
  • Repo root = current working directory.
  • If no .context/ directory exists: STOP. "This project hasn't migrated foundation docs to .context/ yet — run /setup-foundation-context first." Do not fall back to DocVault.

Phase 1: Enumerate .context/ docs

Classify each .context/*.md:

  • Baseline (5) — infrastructure.md, architecture.md, coding-standards.md, design-philosophy.md, reusable-patterns.md. Always audited.
  • Extras — any other .md (e.g. integrations.md, git-topology.md, implementation-gotchas.md). Audited too.
  • GLOSSARY.md — skip drift audit (owned by /glossary); note its presence only.
  • Unpopulated stubs — files whose sections are still <!-- TODO: fill from code -->. Do not flag as drift; list them under "needs fill" so the user (or this skill's promotion pass) can populate them.

What this file has done since we first saw it

Hashed on every crawl. A supply-chain change to an agent config is a question of when, not whether, so the history is kept rather than the latest state alone.

context-drift is a skill published in the GitHub repository lbruton/claude-context (2 stars, last pushed 5d ago), licensed MIT. It adds 197 tokens to every session and 2,715 once invoked, about $0.0008 per session on Opus 5.5. A static security scan graded it A with 1 finding (reads agent configuration directories). No closer match exists in the catalogue, so it is treated as the original; first seen 2026-10-17.
