Getting it into your agent
One page per mod, every tool's command on it. A separate URL per tool would split the same page into five that compete with each other.

Counted locally with the o200k_base tokenizer, which is exact for GPT models; Claude uses its own tokenizer and its counts differ. Treat this as one consistent yardstick across the catalogue rather than a bill. Prices are per million input tokens.

Grade B, and why
codex-responses-tooling scanned grade B with 1 finding against 26 rules in 11 categories — prompt injection, anti-refusal, data exfiltration, privilege escalation, supply chain, agent snooping, system-prompt leakage, SSRF and excessive agency — measured 9d ago.
A static scan of the body, not an audit. Every finding is printed with the line that produced it so you can judge whether it matters here. A mod is markdown that instructs an agent; that is exactly why what it instructs is worth reading.

description: Use when generating images through the local Codex Responses API, especially when the agent should reuse ~/.codex/config.toml base_url and decode streamed image_generation results. What it actually says
Codex Responses Tooling
Use this skill when a task should go through the local Codex Responses API configuration instead of a hardcoded gateway. It is designed as a reusable pattern for streamed Responses calls, including image generation.
What To Read First
- Read
~/.codex/config.toml. - Use
[model_providers.OpenAI].base_urlwhen present. - Read the local auth token from Codex auth storage.
- Build the request against
POST {base_url}/responses.
Request Shape
- Set
"stream": true. - Use the user prompt as the request input.
- Add the tool definition that matches the task.
- For image generation, the tool is:
{"type":"image_generation","model":"gpt-image-2"}
- Choose the outer model with normal judgment;
gpt-5.4is a good default when the task does not require a different model.
Streaming Rules
Treat the response as SSE.
- Read
data:events line by line. - Ignore non-JSON or
[DONE]events. - Watch for
response.output_item.done. - Inspect
item.typeand the tool-specific payload. - When
item.type == "image_generation_call"anditem.resultexists, decodeitem.resultfrom base64. - Write the decoded bytes to
.pngor.jpg.
Reuse Pattern
For other Responses-based tools, keep the same flow:
- read local config first
- reuse the configured
base_url - send a streamed Responses request
- decode the final tool result from the SSE stream
Only the tool definition and the result decoder should change.
Prompting
- Keep the task concrete: subject, composition, output format, and intended use.
- If text must appear in the output image, quote it verbatim.
- For posters or banners, specify aspect ratio and negative space.
Constraints
- Do not rely on the final JSON body for the image payload.
- Do not print or expose the auth token.
Output
Return the saved artifact path and a short note about the request used.
What ships with it
1 file beside SKILL.md in the same directory: the scripts, references and assets a skill reads on demand. Not counted in the per-session cost; read them before you install if any of them is executable.
What this file has done since we first saw it
Hashed on every crawl. A supply-chain change to an agent config is a question of when, not whether, so the history is kept rather than the latest state alone.

codex-responses-tooling is a skill published in the GitHub repository leecyno1/boutique-skills (5 stars, last pushed yesterday), licensed MIT. It adds 40 tokens to every session and 494 once invoked, about $0.0002 per session on Opus 5. A static security scan graded it B with 1 finding (reads agent configuration directories). No closer match exists in the catalogue, so it is treated as the original; first seen 2026-09-03.
