refactoring-team

refactoring-team is a skill for Claude Code from lexler/skill-factory. It costs 20 tokens per session (502 once invoked), scanned A, original, Apache-2.0.

A guided refactoring workflow uses separate worker and reviewer agents to improve code through several review perspectives. It checks the target and tests before changes begin.

In plain words
What is it for?
Use it to refactor selected files or folders, run a specified test command, and review the resulting changes with an agent team.
Why use it?
It reduces the risk of making broad code changes without verification or review. It also gives the refactoring a repeatable process.

Token cost

What it costs to keep this loaded

Counted locally with the o200k_base tokenizer, which is exact for GPT models; Claude uses its own tokenizer and its counts differ. Treat this as one consistent yardstick across the catalogue rather than a bill. Prices are per million input tokens.

ModelPer sessionOnce invoked
Fable 5.1 $0.00020 $0.00502
Opus 5 $0.00010 $0.00251
Sonnet 5 $0.00004 $0.00100
Haiku 4.5 $0.00002 $0.00050

Security

Grade A, and why

refactoring-team scanned grade A with 0 findings against 26 rules in 11 categories — prompt injection, anti-refusal, data exfiltration, privilege escalation, supply chain, agent snooping, system-prompt leakage, SSRF and excessive agency — measured 7d ago.

The scan reads SKILL.md. This mod also ships 1 executable file (references/guard-idle-worker.sh), listed below but not scanned — reading those needs a real analyzer, not pattern matching.

A static scan of the body, not an audit. Every finding is printed with the line that produced it so you can judge whether it matters here. A mod is markdown that instructs an agent; that is exactly why what it instructs is worth reading.

Nothing flagged

None of the 26 patterns this scan looks for appear in this file: no shell pipes, no recursive deletes, no credential paths, no hidden text, no instruction-override or anti-refusal phrasing, no agent-config snooping. That is not a guarantee, it is the absence of the things that are checkable.

What it actually says

STARTER_CHARACTER = 💎

Prerequisites

Agent teams must be enabled in settings:

{
  "env": {
    "CLAUDE_CODE_EXPERIMENTAL_AGENT_TEAMS": "1"
  }
}

If not set, offer to add it before proceeding.

Setup

If $ARGUMENTS provided, use as target path. Otherwise ask for:

  • Target path (files or folder to refactor)
  • Test command to verify changes

Verify the target path exists and tests pass before proceeding.

Launch the Team

Generate a short random ID: head -c 3 /dev/urandom | xxd -p | head -c 3

Use it to name the teammates:

  • Worker: worker-ID (e.g. worker-a3f)
  • Reviewer: reviewer-ID (e.g. reviewer-a3f)

Read the spawn prompts:

Before spawning, replace these placeholders in both prompts:

  • TARGET_PATH → actual target path
  • TEST_COMMAND → actual test command
  • LENSES_DIR${CLAUDE_SKILL_DIR}/references/lenses
  • GUIDES_DIR${CLAUDE_SKILL_DIR}/references/reviewer-guides
  • WORKER_NAME → the worker's name (e.g. worker-a3f)
  • REVIEWER_NAME → the reviewer's name (e.g. reviewer-a3f)

After Launch

Tell the user:

  • Shift+Down cycles between worker and reviewer
  • For split panes: set teammateMode: "tmux" in settings

Monitor Progress

When a worker goes idle, read .refactoring-state to check the lens number. If it skipped a value, message the reviewer to go back and complete the skipped lens first.

Files

What ships with it

50 files beside SKILL.md in the same directory: the scripts, references and assets a skill reads on demand. Not counted in the per-session cost; read them before you install if any of them is executable.

Changes

What this file has done since we first saw it

Hashed on every crawl. A supply-chain change to an agent config is a question of when, not whether, so the history is kept rather than the latest state alone.
