obsidian-knowledge-retrieval is a skill for Codex from li1-user/obsidian-mcp-bridge. It costs 80 tokens per session (617 once invoked), scanned A, original, MIT.

A read-only assistant for finding, reading, comparing, and combining information from an Obsidian knowledge base. Obsidian is a note-taking app that stores notes in a personal collection called a vault.

In plain words

Token cost

What it costs to keep this loaded

Counted locally with the o200k_base tokenizer, which is exact for GPT models; Claude uses its own tokenizer and its counts differ. Treat this as one consistent yardstick across the catalogue rather than a bill. Prices are per million input tokens.

ModelPer sessionOnce invoked
Fable 5.1 $0.00080 $0.00617
Opus 5 $0.00040 $0.00309
Sonnet 5 $0.00016 $0.00123
Haiku 4.5 $0.00008 $0.00062

Security

Grade A, and why

obsidian-knowledge-retrieval scanned grade A with 0 findings against 26 rules in 11 categories — prompt injection, anti-refusal, data exfiltration, privilege escalation, supply chain, agent snooping, system-prompt leakage, SSRF and excessive agency — measured 11d ago.

A static scan of the body, not an audit. Every finding is printed with the line that produced it so you can judge whether it matters here. A mod is markdown that instructs an agent; that is exactly why what it instructs is worth reading.

Nothing flagged

None of the 26 patterns this scan looks for appear in this file: no shell pipes, no recursive deletes, no credential paths, no hidden text, no instruction-override or anti-refusal phrasing, no agent-config snooping. That is not a guarantee, it is the absence of the things that are checkable.

Obsidian Knowledge Retrieval

Answer from the user's live Obsidian knowledge base without changing it.

Routing

  • Make this primary for pure search, recall, comparison, and synthesis.
  • Let method-training-coach lead when history is needed to continue an active exercise; use retrieval internally without revealing an old solution prematurely.
  • Let obsidian-note-maintenance lead a focused write and daily-knowledge-ingest lead a heterogeneous batch.
  • Let method-evidence-review lead explicit evidence, practice-count, transfer, or readiness judgments.
  • Honor “read only” literally, even when a note appears outdated.
  • If intent remains materially ambiguous, stay read-only and ask one concise question.

Tools

  • search_notes(query, maxResults) — locate relevant notes and snippets.
  • read_note(path) — read a materially relevant Markdown note.
  • list_notes() — browse structure only when necessary.
  • ping() — troubleshoot connectivity only.

Workflow

  1. Start ordinary topic retrieval with search_notes.
  2. Inspect paths and snippets.
  3. Refine with synonyms, project terms, technical terms, or related concepts when needed.
  4. Read only strong candidates.
  5. Answer from actual note contents.
  6. Distinguish explicit note facts, cross-note synthesis, and unsupported inference.

Do not conclude that nothing exists after one failed query. Use list_notes only when the user asks to browse, no useful search term exists, or overall structure is necessary.

Factual fidelity and conflicts

  • Preserve differing stages, dates, and conclusions.
  • Identify conflicts instead of silently merging them.
  • State which record is newer when dates support that conclusion.
  • Use live notes rather than model memory.
  • Do not infer a method level, practice count, or attribution from retrieved text unless the request is explicitly routed to Evidence Review.

Read-only boundary

Do not create, modify, delete, move, rename, append, preview writes, control training intensity, or claim a write occurred.

Changes

What this file has done since we first saw it

Hashed on every crawl. A supply-chain change to an agent config is a question of when, not whether, so the history is kept rather than the latest state alone.
