bot-guide-avatars

bot-guide-avatars is a skill for Claude Code, Codex from Lingtai-AI/lingtai. It costs 30 tokens per session (657 once invoked), scanned A, original, Apache-2.0.

A guide for deciding whether a LingTai bot should be a new project, a persistent avatar or a temporary daemon. An avatar is a long-running independent agent with its own history; a daemon is short-lived work that returns a result.

In plain words
What is it for?
Use it to choose the bot type and find the current instructions for creating an avatar or starting a project or daemon.
Why use it?
These choices affect ownership, storage, lifetime and relationships between agents. The guide helps avoid creating a long-running bot for a small one-off task or using a temporary process where persistence is needed.

Token cost

What it costs to keep this loaded

Counted locally with the o200k_base tokenizer, which is exact for GPT models; Claude uses its own tokenizer and its counts differ. Treat this as one consistent yardstick across the catalogue rather than a bill. Prices are per million input tokens.

ModelPer sessionOnce invoked
Fable 5.1 $0.00030 $0.00657
Opus 5.5 $0.00012 $0.00263
Sonnet 5.5 $0.00006 $0.00131
Haiku 4.5 $0.00003 $0.00066

Security

Grade A, and why

bot-guide-avatars scanned grade A with 0 findings against 26 rules in 11 categories — prompt injection, anti-refusal, data exfiltration, privilege escalation, supply chain, agent snooping, system-prompt leakage, SSRF and excessive agency — measured 10d ago.

A static scan of the body, not an audit. Every finding is printed with the line that produced it so you can judge whether it matters here. A mod is markdown that instructs an agent; that is exactly why what it instructs is worth reading.

Nothing flagged

None of the 26 patterns this scan looks for appear in this file: no shell pipes, no recursive deletes, no credential paths, no hidden text, no instruction-override or anti-refusal phrasing, no agent-config snooping. That is not a guarantee, it is the absence of the things that are checkable.

How it starts

The opening of the file, as written. The whole thing — 55 lines — stays where its author put it; the contents beside it link to each section on GitHub.

Independent avatars are not headless project bots

Nested lingtai-bot-guide reference. A bot can be a durable specialist, but body selection and channel selection are different decisions.

  • Project bot: its own project/orchestrator and maintenance owner. Use initiation and the supported project creation route.
  • Avatar: independent persistent agent process inside the network, with its own working directory/history/memory and parent relationship. Discover avatar-manual for the currently mounted tool and its exact spawn contract; discover system-manual → reference/substrate-manual/SKILL.md §1 for body selection. Do not create an avatar for a tiny command or one-off test.
  • Daemon: bounded ephemeral work where only conclusion/artifact is needed. Discover daemon-manual for completion/checkpoint and async ownership. A daemon is not a replacement for an always-on bot with persistent relationships.

Current route and candidate boundary

Read the available avatar-manual and live schema before creating an avatar. The currently documented tool route is avatar spawn; this guide does not copy its flags or inheritance algorithm. The cross-repository shell avatar new replacement is a candidate, NOT MERGED / NOT LIVE for this guide's baseline. No invocation is prescribed here. If a future installed catalog advertises the replacement, read that version's manual and help first; do not infer support from a proposal, source branch or a command remembered from another runtime.

Before and after authorized creation

Give a specific mission, allowed resources, parent contact, maintenance owner, acceptance evidence and limits. Preview using the owner's supported mechanism where available; creation consumes resources and is not an inspection call. Keep the receipt/address/PID and verify the intended independent process.

Do not assume active-preset, admin, addon/channel secrets, comment or all other parent fields are inherited. In particular avatars do not automatically inherit external addons: an independent channel needs separately authorized setup through channels. Sharing one Telegram long-poll token between independent listeners can contend; assign ownership rather than starting copies.

What this file has done since we first saw it

Hashed on every crawl. A supply-chain change to an agent config is a question of when, not whether, so the history is kept rather than the latest state alone.
