history-analyzer

history-analyzer is a skill for Claude Code from lis186/SourceAtlas. It costs 52 tokens per session (344 once invoked), scanned A, original, MIT.

A skill that studies a repository's Git history, which records code changes over time. It identifies frequently changed files, files that often change together, and how knowledge is distributed among contributors.

In plain words
What is it for?
Use it to find frequently changed files, discover who knows a code area, identify files that change together, assess single-contributor risk, and prioritize refactoring.
Why use it?
It reveals risky code hotspots, hidden dependencies, and areas known by only one person. This helps you decide where review, documentation, or refactoring may be needed.

Token cost

What it costs to keep this loaded

Counted locally with the o200k_base tokenizer, which is exact for GPT models; Claude uses its own tokenizer and its counts differ. Treat this as one consistent yardstick across the catalogue rather than a bill. Prices are per million input tokens.

ModelPer sessionOnce invoked
Fable 5.1 $0.00052 $0.00344
Opus 5 $0.00026 $0.00172
Sonnet 5 $0.00010 $0.00069
Haiku 4.5 $0.00005 $0.00034

Measured 6d ago against content hash 342dc0be9c00, method: parsed. Prices are Anthropic first-party input rates as of 2026-09-06, from the pricing page.

Security

Grade A, and why

history-analyzer scanned grade A with 0 findings against 26 rules in 11 categories — prompt injection, anti-refusal, data exfiltration, privilege escalation, supply chain, agent snooping, system-prompt leakage, SSRF and excessive agency — measured 6d ago.

A static scan of the body, not an audit. Every finding is printed with the line that produced it so you can judge whether it matters here. A mod is markdown that instructs an agent; that is exactly why what it instructs is worth reading.

Nothing flagged

None of the 26 patterns this scan looks for appear in this file: no shell pipes, no recursive deletes, no credential paths, no hidden text, no instruction-override or anti-refusal phrasing, no agent-config snooping. That is not a guarantee, it is the absence of the things that are checkable.

What it actually says

History Analyzer

When to Use

Trigger this skill when the user:

  • Wants to find code hotspots (frequently changed files)
  • Needs to identify who knows specific code areas
  • Asks about bus factor or knowledge distribution
  • Wants to find hidden coupling between files
  • Asks "who should I ask about X"

Instructions

  1. Run /sourceatlas:history for the entire repo, or /sourceatlas:history <path> for specific directory
  2. Optionally specify time range: /sourceatlas:history . 6 for last 6 months
  3. Returns hotspots, coupling analysis, and contributor distribution

Command Formats

  • Full repo: /sourceatlas:history
  • Specific directory: /sourceatlas:history src/
  • With time range: /sourceatlas:history . 6 (last 6 months)

What User Gets

  • Hotspots: Files with most changes (complexity indicators)
  • Temporal Coupling: Files that always change together (hidden dependencies)
  • Recent Contributors: Who knows what areas
  • Bus Factor Risk: Single-contributor files
  • Priority actions for refactoring

Example Triggers

  • "What are the hotspots in this codebase?"
  • "Who knows the payment module best?"
  • "What files always change together?"
  • "Is there any bus factor risk?"
  • "Show me knowledge distribution"
Changes

What this file has done since we first saw it

Hashed on every crawl. A supply-chain change to an agent config is a question of when, not whether, so the history is kept rather than the latest state alone.
