litestar-middleware

litestar-middleware is a skill for Claude Code from litestar-org/litestar-skills. It costs 48 tokens per session (490 once invoked), scanned A, original, MIT.

A guide to middleware in Litestar, a Python web framework, for code that runs around incoming requests and outgoing responses. It covers built-in settings, custom ASGI middleware, request hooks, and loading authenticated users.

In plain words
What is it for?
Configuring request handling, authentication-related user loading, HTTP and WebSocket behavior, middleware order, and cross-cutting checks in Litestar applications.
Why use it?
It helps keep shared request behavior such as CORS, CSRF protection, compression, and request IDs in the right place without mixing it with application business logic.

Token cost

What it costs to keep this loaded

Counted locally with the o200k_base tokenizer, which is exact for GPT models; Claude uses its own tokenizer and its counts differ. Treat this as one consistent yardstick across the catalogue rather than a bill. Prices are per million input tokens.

ModelPer sessionOnce invoked
Fable 5.1 $0.00048 $0.00490
Opus 5 $0.00024 $0.00245
Sonnet 5 $0.00010 $0.00098
Haiku 4.5 $0.00005 $0.00049

Security

Grade A, and why

litestar-middleware scanned grade A with 0 findings against 26 rules in 11 categories — prompt injection, anti-refusal, data exfiltration, privilege escalation, supply chain, agent snooping, system-prompt leakage, SSRF and excessive agency — measured 11d ago.

A static scan of the body, not an audit. Every finding is printed with the line that produced it so you can judge whether it matters here. A mod is markdown that instructs an agent; that is exactly why what it instructs is worth reading.

Nothing flagged

None of the 26 patterns this scan looks for appear in this file: no shell pipes, no recursive deletes, no credential paths, no hidden text, no instruction-override or anti-refusal phrasing, no agent-config snooping. That is not a guarantee, it is the absence of the things that are checkable.

What it actually says

Litestar Middleware

Use this skill for built-in middleware config, custom ASGI middleware, request lifecycle hooks, and auth user loading.

Code Style Rules

  • Use built-in middleware configs before custom middleware.
  • Keep middleware focused on cross-cutting request behavior.
  • Filter by ASGI scope when middleware applies only to HTTP or WebSocket.
  • Keep business policy in Guards and services.

Quick Reference

Workflow

  1. Decide whether a built-in config solves the need.
  2. Choose custom middleware only for cross-cutting behavior.
  3. Set ordering deliberately.
  4. Verify HTTP and WebSocket behavior separately when both apply.

Guardrails

  • Do not put business workflows in middleware.
  • Do not apply HTTP-only middleware to WebSocket scopes.
  • Do not mutate request state without documenting the key.
  • Do not duplicate Guard policy in middleware.

Validation Checkpoint

  • Middleware order is intentional.
  • Scope filtering is correct.
  • Built-in configs are used where available.
  • Tests cover the request path affected by middleware.

Example

from litestar.middleware import ASGIMiddleware

middleware = [RequestIDMiddleware()]

Changes

What this file has done since we first saw it

Hashed on every crawl. A supply-chain change to an agent config is a question of when, not whether, so the history is kept rather than the latest state alone.
