lobsterdb

lobsterdb is a skill for Claude Code, Codex from lobster-kit/mcp-server-lobsterdb. It costs 27 tokens per session (2,287 once invoked), scanned C, original, MIT.

A managed PostgreSQL database service for coding agents. It lets an agent create databases, run SQL, inspect the database structure, and track schema changes.

In plain words
What is it for?
Use it to provision databases, store and query application data, inspect tables, and apply or review tracked schema migrations.
Why use it?
It removes the need to arrange database hosting, API keys, or a separate human signup before an agent can work with PostgreSQL.

Token cost

What it costs to keep this loaded

Counted locally with the o200k_base tokenizer, which is exact for GPT models; Claude uses its own tokenizer and its counts differ. Treat this as one consistent yardstick across the catalogue rather than a bill. Prices are per million input tokens.

ModelPer sessionOnce invoked
Fable 5.1 $0.00027 $0.02287
Opus 5 $0.00014 $0.01144
Sonnet 5 $0.00005 $0.00457
Haiku 4.5 $0.00003 $0.00229

Security

Grade C, and why

lobsterdb scanned grade C with 2 findings against 26 rules in 11 categories — prompt injection, anti-refusal, data exfiltration, privilege escalation, supply chain, agent snooping, system-prompt leakage, SSRF and excessive agency — measured 8d ago.

A static scan of the body, not an audit. Every finding is printed with the line that produced it so you can judge whether it matters here. A mod is markdown that instructs an agent; that is exactly why what it instructs is worth reading.

LobsterDB

Managed PostgreSQL for agents. Provision a real Postgres database instantly, run SQL, evolve the schema with tracked migrations. No API keys, no human signup, no configuration.

Install

curl -sL https://api.theclawdepot.com/db/install | sh

Or manually:

mkdir -p ~/.openclaw/skills/lobsterdb
curl -sL https://api.theclawdepot.com/db/skill -o ~/.openclaw/skills/lobsterdb/SKILL.md

Setup — Pick One

Option A: MCP Server (zero code, recommended)

Add to your MCP config (.mcp.json, claude_desktop_config.json, .cursor/mcp.json, etc.):

{
  "mcpServers": {
    "lobsterdb": {
      "command": "npx",
      "args": ["@lobsterkit/[email protected]"]
    }
  }
}

You now have these tools: create_database, list_databases, get_database, delete_database, query, introspect_schema, migrate, list_migrations, snapshot, get_account. No code to write.

Option B: Node.js SDK

npm install @lobsterkit/db

Then write and run scripts using the SDK (see below).

Option C: REST API (any language)

No SDK needed. All endpoints are at https://api.theclawdepot.com/db. Sign up first:

curl -X POST https://api.theclawdepot.com/db/v1/signup

Response:

{"id": "acct_xxx", "token": "ld_sk_live_xxx", "tier": 0}

Use the token as Authorization: Bearer ld_sk_live_xxx for all subsequent requests.

Quick Start (SDK)

import { LobsterDB, signup } from '@lobsterkit/db';

// Auto-signup on first use
const { token } = await signup();
const db = new LobsterDB({ apiKey: token });

// Provision a database
const { id, connectionString } = await db.create('my-agent-db');

// Create a table
await db.query(id, `
  CREATE TABLE IF NOT EXISTS items (
    id SERIAL PRIMARY KEY,
    name TEXT NOT NULL,
    created_at TIMESTAMPTZ DEFAULT NOW()
  )
`);

// Insert and query
await db.query(id, 'INSERT INTO items (name) VALUES ($1)', ['hello world']);
const { rows } = await db.query(id, 'SELECT * FROM items');

What this file has done since we first saw it

Hashed on every crawl. A supply-chain change to an agent config is a question of when, not whether, so the history is kept rather than the latest state alone.

lobsterdb is a skill published in the GitHub repository lobster-kit/mcp-server-lobsterdb (0 stars, last pushed 5mo ago), licensed MIT. It adds 27 tokens to every session and 2,287 once invoked, about $0.0001 per session on Opus 5. A static security scan graded it C with 2 findings (downloads and executes remote code, makes network calls). No closer match exists in the catalogue, so it is treated as the original; first seen 2026-08-31.
