br-php83-upgrade

br-php83-upgrade is a skill for Claude Code, Codex from Lonsdale201/wp-agent-skills. It costs 79 tokens per session (1,156 once invoked), scanned A, original, MIT.

A migration guide for moving a Better Route PHP integration from version 1.1.2 to 2.0 while adopting PHP 8.3. PHP is a programming language, and Composer is the tool that installs PHP libraries.

In plain words
What is it for?
It is for updating Composer requirements and lockfiles, checking PHP runtimes and extensions, handling compatibility changes, and smoke-testing the integration before deployment.
Why use it?
It helps avoid installing a library version that the runtime cannot support or leaving long-running workers on an older PHP version. It also checks that authentication, reads, writes, and retries still work after the upgrade.

Token cost

What it costs to keep this loaded

Counted locally with the o200k_base tokenizer, which is exact for GPT models; Claude uses its own tokenizer and its counts differ. Treat this as one consistent yardstick across the catalogue rather than a bill. Prices are per million input tokens.

ModelPer sessionOnce invoked
Fable 5.1 $0.00079 $0.01156
Opus 5.5 $0.00032 $0.00462
Sonnet 5.5 $0.00016 $0.00231
Haiku 4.5 $0.00008 $0.00116

Security

Grade A, and why

br-php83-upgrade scanned grade A with 0 findings against 26 rules in 11 categories — prompt injection, anti-refusal, data exfiltration, privilege escalation, supply chain, agent snooping, system-prompt leakage, SSRF and excessive agency — measured 4d ago.

A static scan of the body, not an audit. Every finding is printed with the line that produced it so you can judge whether it matters here. A mod is markdown that instructs an agent; that is exactly why what it instructs is worth reading.

Nothing flagged

None of the 26 patterns this scan looks for appear in this file: no shell pipes, no recursive deletes, no credential paths, no hidden text, no instruction-override or anti-refusal phrasing, no agent-config snooping. That is not a guarantee, it is the absence of the things that are checkable.

Better Route 2.0 / PHP 8.3 upgrade

Move an existing Better Route integration to the PHP 8.3 minimum without silently changing its application API or weakening its authentication and write safeguards.

Runtime and dependency change

  1. Check web/FPM, CLI, cron and long-lived worker PHP versions independently. Upgrade all to at least 8.3 before installing 2.0; verify required host plugins/extensions.
  2. Change better-route/better-route to ^2.0, update the consumer lockfile and run composer check-platform-reqs --no-dev under the real deployment runtime. A config.platform override is a resolver input, not a runtime upgrade.
  3. Deploy the matching dependency tree and restart long-lived workers. Smoke test the integration's real authorization, reads, writes and retry behavior.

An existing ^1.1 constraint does not install 2.0. PHP 8.1/8.2 consumers can use the 1.1.3 security patch. On 1.1.2 or older, use an explicit URL-bound Resource ownership policy until updated; see br-owned-resource-guards. The package is a Composer library; it has no standalone WordPress activation step. For a host plugin that now requires this runtime, update that plugin's own declared PHP requirement and deployment checks as well.

Readonly object compatibility

These existing final DTO/policy classes become readonly classes:

  • Http\RequestContext, Http\Response, Router\RouteDefinition;
  • Woo AnalyticsQuery, CustomerListQuery, CouponListQuery, OrderListQuery, ProductListQuery and CustomerRolePolicy.

Declared fields were already readonly. Constructors, named parameters and values remain unchanged; undeclared dynamic properties now throw. Replace custom property attachments with RequestContext::withAttribute() or separate application state:

$nextContext = $context->withAttribute('tenantId', $tenantId);
return $next($nextContext);

The original context remains unchanged. Readonly is shallow: an object referenced by a DTO can still mutate. Do not treat these objects as deep security boundaries.

What this file has done since we first saw it

Hashed on every crawl. A supply-chain change to an agent config is a question of when, not whether, so the history is kept rather than the latest state alone.
