paper-cranes: Skill for Claude Code

.claude/skills/live-session/SKILL.md

live-session is a skill for Claude Code from loqwai/paper-cranes. It costs 51 tokens per session (1,127 once invoked), scanned A, original, BSD-3-Clause.

A command for opening a live session with a shader editor and a music source in Chrome. A shader is code that generates visual effects, and the session lets the user and agent work on those visuals while music plays.

In plain words
What is it for?
Use it to start an interactive shader-and-music session, optionally choosing a shader file, audio URL, or operating mode.
Why use it?
It gathers the browser tools and development server needed for an audio-visual coding session in one workflow. It can also identify a shader to work on from the supplied path or recent changes.

Skill for Claude Code

This is loqwai/paper-cranes's own configuration. It tells Claude Code how to work on paper-cranes itself, so it is not a mod to install elsewhere. Copy it as a starting point and replace the rules that are about this project. Everything paper-cranes configures →

Not installable: its command points at a path on the author’s own machine, so it runs nowhere else. The line is /Users/redaphid/Projects/paper-cranes.

Token cost

What it costs to keep this loaded

Counted locally with the o200k_base tokenizer, which is exact for GPT models; Claude uses its own tokenizer and its counts differ. Treat this as one consistent yardstick across the catalogue rather than a bill. Prices are per million input tokens.

ModelPer sessionOnce invoked
Fable 5.1 $0.00051 $0.01127
Opus 5.5 $0.00020 $0.00451
Sonnet 5.5 $0.00010 $0.00225
Haiku 4.5 $0.00005 $0.00113

Security

Grade A, and why

live-session scanned grade A with 1 finding against 26 rules in 11 categories — prompt injection, anti-refusal, data exfiltration, privilege escalation, supply chain, agent snooping, system-prompt leakage, SSRF and excessive agency — measured 11d ago.

A static scan of the body, not an audit. Every finding is printed with the line that produced it so you can judge whether it matters here. A mod is markdown that instructs an agent; that is exactly why what it instructs is worth reading.

Live Session — Creative Audio-Visual Jam with Claude

Launch everything needed for a live shader + music session where Claude edits visuals in real-time while the user vibes to music.

Context

Arguments (optional shader path, audio URL, or mode): !echo "$ARGUMENTS"

Dev server status: !curl -s -o /dev/null -w "%{http_code}" http://localhost:6969/ 2>/dev/null || echo "not running"

Modified shaders in worktree (fallback target): !git diff --name-only HEAD | grep '\.frag$' | head -3 2>/dev/null; git status --short | grep '\.frag' | head -3 2>/dev/null

What This Skill Does

Gets Claude and the user into a live creative session as fast as possible. The goal is fun — music playing, visuals reacting, Claude making edits that hot-reload in real-time, user tweaking knobs and vibing.

Steps

1. Ensure the dev server is running

Check if localhost:6969 responds. If not, start it:

cd /Users/redaphid/Projects/paper-cranes && npm run dev &

Wait for it to be ready (poll with curl, max 10 seconds).

2. Determine the shader

From $ARGUMENTS, or fall back to:

  1. The most recently modified .frag in the worktree
  2. redaphid/wip/the-coat-fur-coat/the-coat-fur-coat-reactive (the default jam shader)

3. Open Chrome and connect

Important lessons learned:

  • Chrome may not be running. Check first with pgrep -x "Google Chrome". If not running, open -a "Google Chrome" and wait a beat.
  • After launching Chrome or reconnecting MCP, call tabs_context_mcp with createIfEmpty: true to get fresh tab IDs. Old tab IDs from previous sessions are stale and will silently fail.
  • Do NOT trust tab data from before the MCP reconnection.

Steps:

  1. Ensure Chrome is running (launch if needed)
  2. Call tabs_context_mcp with createIfEmpty: true
  3. Create a new tab and navigate to the editor:
    http://localhost:6969/edit.html?shader=<shader-path>&audio=tab

  4. Create another tab for the audio source:
    • If a SoundCloud/Spotify URL was provided in $ARGUMENTS, navigate there
    • Otherwise open https://soundcloud.com (good default — no login required to browse)

What this file has done since we first saw it

Hashed on every crawl. A supply-chain change to an agent config is a question of when, not whether, so the history is kept rather than the latest state alone.

live-session is a skill published in the GitHub repository loqwai/paper-cranes (7 stars, last pushed 3d ago), licensed BSD-3-Clause. It adds 51 tokens to every session and 1,127 once invoked, about $0.0002 per session on Opus 5.5. A static security scan graded it A with 1 finding (makes network calls). No closer match exists in the catalogue, so it is treated as the original; first seen 2026-10-02.
