openpanel-analytics

openpanel-analytics is a skill for Claude Code, Codex from lossless-group/lossless-agent-skills. It costs 127 tokens per session (1,395 once invoked), scanned A, original, MIT.

A setup and verification guide for adding OpenPanel, a web analytics service, to Astro websites and splash pages. It covers the production analytics component, host settings, environment variables, dashboard configuration, and verification.

In plain words
What is it for?
Use it to add the analytics component to an Astro layout, configure the OpenPanel client ID on Vercel or GitHub Pages, set supported domains, and check that events arrive correctly.
Why use it?
It addresses configuration mistakes that can silently prevent events from being accepted, including missing supported-domain settings. It also keeps tracking limited to production as described by the guide.

Token cost

What it costs to keep this loaded

Counted locally with the o200k_base tokenizer, which is exact for GPT models; Claude uses its own tokenizer and its counts differ. Treat this as one consistent yardstick across the catalogue rather than a bill. Prices are per million input tokens.

ModelPer sessionOnce invoked
Fable 5.1 $0.00127 $0.01395
Opus 5.5 $0.00051 $0.00558
Sonnet 5.5 $0.00025 $0.00279
Haiku 4.5 $0.00013 $0.00139

Security

Grade A, and why

openpanel-analytics scanned grade A with 1 finding against 26 rules in 11 categories — prompt injection, anti-refusal, data exfiltration, privilege escalation, supply chain, agent snooping, system-prompt leakage, SSRF and excessive agency — measured 10d ago.

A static scan of the body, not an audit. Every finding is printed with the line that produced it so you can judge whether it matters here. A mod is markdown that instructs an agent; that is exactly why what it instructs is worth reading.

OpenPanel analytics

Most Lossless Astro sites and every splash page should carry OpenPanel. It's the default analytics for low-traffic sites: one account covers many sites, behavior tracking is richer than a plain page counter, and self-hosting stays an option later. The pattern is the same everywhere, and nearly every failure so far has been configuration, not code.

The component

src/components/Analytics.astro, included once in the layout's <head>. exact: copy it as-is.

// Analytics: OpenPanel, production-only.
const isProd = import.meta.env.PROD;
const openPanelClientId = import.meta.env.OPENPANEL_CLIENT_ID;
---

{isProd && openPanelClientId && (

      window.op('init', {
        clientId: openPanelClientId,

      });
    </script>
    <script is:inline src="https://openpanel.dev/op1.js" defer async></script>
  </>
)}
  • Production-only. pnpm dev and local previews never send events, so they never pollute the dashboard.
  • Inert without a client ID. No variable means no script: a site can ship the component before its OpenPanel client exists.
  • If the site already layers other trackers (Umami, Fathom), keep them in the same component.

Environment variable

  • OPENPANEL_CLIENT_ID is the only value the browser needs. It's public by design: it appears in the HTML.
  • Never put OPENPANEL_CLIENT_SECRET in a site. Browser tracking doesn't use it. If a repo holds one as a Secret for a site, it's unused and can go.
  • Locally: OPENPANEL_CLIENT_ID= in .env.example, with the value only in a gitignored .env.

What this file has done since we first saw it

Hashed on every crawl. A supply-chain change to an agent config is a question of when, not whether, so the history is kept rather than the latest state alone.

openpanel-analytics is a skill published in the GitHub repository lossless-group/lossless-agent-skills (4 stars, last pushed 2d ago), licensed MIT. It adds 127 tokens to every session and 1,395 once invoked, about $0.0005 per session on Opus 5.5. A static security scan graded it A with 1 finding (makes network calls). No closer match exists in the catalogue, so it is treated as the original; first seen 2026-10-06.
