tdmcp-troubleshooting

tdmcp-troubleshooting is a skill for Claude Code, Codex from lucasmaher-hash/touch-designer-mcp. It costs 26 tokens per session (350 once invoked), scanned A, a copy of tdmcp-troubleshooting, MIT.

A troubleshooting guide for tdmcp, a bridge that lets coding agents communicate with TouchDesigner, a visual programming tool. It uses layered checks to identify where a connection or operation fails.

In plain words
What is it for?
Use it to check the runtime and bridge, inspect TouchDesigner nodes and errors, reproduce failures with small operations, and verify bounded repairs.
Why use it?
It helps distinguish connection, authentication, input, endpoint, timeout, and TouchDesigner errors instead of treating every problem as the bridge being offline.

Token cost

What it costs to keep this loaded

Counted locally with the o200k_base tokenizer, which is exact for GPT models; Claude uses its own tokenizer and its counts differ. Treat this as one consistent yardstick across the catalogue rather than a bill. Prices are per million input tokens.

ModelPer sessionOnce invoked
Fable 5.1 $0.00026 $0.00350
Opus 5 $0.00013 $0.00175
Sonnet 5 $0.00005 $0.00070
Haiku 4.5 $0.00003 $0.00035

Security

Grade A, and why

tdmcp-troubleshooting scanned grade A with 0 findings against 26 rules in 11 categories — prompt injection, anti-refusal, data exfiltration, privilege escalation, supply chain, agent snooping, system-prompt leakage, SSRF and excessive agency — measured 8d ago.

A static scan of the body, not an audit. Every finding is printed with the line that produced it so you can judge whether it matters here. A mod is markdown that instructs an agent; that is exactly why what it instructs is worth reading.

Nothing flagged

None of the 26 patterns this scan looks for appear in this file: no shell pipes, no recursive deletes, no credential paths, no hidden text, no instruction-override or anti-refusal phrasing, no agent-config snooping. That is not a guarantee, it is the absence of the things that are checkable.

What it actually says

tdmcp troubleshooting

Use this skill when tdmcp cannot reach TouchDesigner, a structured operation fails, a node cooks with errors, or the observed network differs from the requested result.

Diagnose in layers

  1. Check local runtime status: package version, configuration source, bridge URL, authentication readiness, and whether the endpoint is reachable.
  2. If reachable, read bridge info and TouchDesigner build before testing mutating operations.
  3. Inspect the exact operator path, parameters, connections, cook errors, and preview relevant to the failure.
  4. Distinguish unsupported endpoint, invalid input, authorization failure, timeout, connection refusal, and TouchDesigner-side error. Do not collapse them into "offline".
  5. Reproduce with the smallest structured read or mutation. Do not use arbitrary Python merely to bypass a missing first-class operation.

Recovery boundaries

  • Do not disable authentication or enable raw execution as a generic repair.
  • Do not delete or overwrite artist content to make a health check pass.
  • Preserve the configured bridge port; parallel analysis or test bridges must use isolated ports.
  • After a repair, repeat the original bounded check and report both the prior failure and current evidence.
  • If a check requires a running UI, hardware, pane, or saved project, mark it unverified when that dependency is absent.

Useful evidence includes exact endpoint status, typed error code, operator path, parameter name, TouchDesigner build, and the command or tool result that verified recovery. Redact tokens and project-sensitive content.

Changes

What this file has done since we first saw it

Hashed on every crawl. A supply-chain change to an agent config is a question of when, not whether, so the history is kept rather than the latest state alone.
