claude-cognis: Skill for Claude Code

.agents/skills/cognis-skills/SKILL.md

cognis-skills is a skill for Claude Code from Lyzr-Cognis/claude-cognis. It costs 107 tokens per session (1,004 once invoked), scanned A, original, MIT.

A skill for Cognis, a service that stores AI-agent memory across coding sessions. It supports personal memories and project or team memories, with settings that identify the user and repository.

In plain words
What is it for?
Use it when someone asks the agent to remember information, recall past work, save team knowledge, or preserve project decisions for future sessions.
Why use it?
It keeps useful context available after a session ends instead of making the agent rediscover it. Separate scopes help prevent personal notes from being mixed with shared project knowledge.

Skill for Claude Code

Written for Claude Code: shipped in a Claude Code plugin. Also seen: installed under .agents/ (shared by several agents).

This is Lyzr-Cognis/claude-cognis's own configuration. It tells Claude Code how to work on claude-cognis itself, so it is not a mod to install elsewhere. Copy it as a starting point and replace the rules that are about this project. Everything claude-cognis configures →

Token cost

What it costs to keep this loaded

Counted locally with the o200k_base tokenizer, which is exact for GPT models; Claude uses its own tokenizer and its counts differ. Treat this as one consistent yardstick across the catalogue rather than a bill. Prices are per million input tokens.

ModelPer sessionOnce invoked
Fable 5.1 $0.00107 $0.01004
Opus 5 $0.00053 $0.00502
Sonnet 5 $0.00021 $0.00201
Haiku 4.5 $0.00011 $0.00100

Security

Grade A, and why

cognis-skills scanned grade A with 1 finding against 26 rules in 11 categories — prompt injection, anti-refusal, data exfiltration, privilege escalation, supply chain, agent snooping, system-prompt leakage, SSRF and excessive agency — measured 12d ago.

The scan reads SKILL.md. This mod also ships 3 executable files (scripts/cognis-context.sh, scripts/cognis-save.sh, scripts/cognis-search.sh), listed below but not scanned — reading those needs a real analyzer, not pattern matching.

A static scan of the body, not an audit. Every finding is printed with the line that produced it so you can judge whether it matters here. A mod is markdown that instructs an agent; that is exactly why what it instructs is worth reading.

Cognis — Persistent Memory for AI Agents

Cognis gives you long-term memory that persists across sessions. Memories are scoped per-user and per-project, with optional team-wide sharing.

Setup

The LYZR_API_KEY environment variable must be set. Get a key at studio.lyzr.ai.

export LYZR_API_KEY="your-key-here"

Optionally set COGNIS_OWNER_ID to override the default owner (system username).

Scoping

Cognis uses two levels of scoping to keep memories organized:

  • owner_id: Identifies the user. Defaults to the system username (whoami). Override with COGNIS_OWNER_ID.
  • agent_id: Identifies the project context.
    • Personal scope: claudecode_<sha256(git_root)[:16]> — unique per user per project.
    • Team scope: repo_<sanitized_repo_name> — shared across all contributors to a repo.

The scripts detect the git root and remote automatically. No manual configuration needed.

Saving Memories

Save something the user wants to remember:

bash scripts/cognis-save.sh "The user prefers PostgreSQL for all new services"

Save a team-wide memory (visible to all repo contributors):

bash scripts/cognis-save.sh "Deploy process: run migrations first, then deploy API, then workers" --team

Read references/api-reference.md for full parameter details.

Searching Memories

Search for relevant memories:

bash scripts/cognis-search.sh "what database do we use"

Search only team memories:

bash scripts/cognis-search.sh "deployment process" --repo

Search both personal and team:

bash scripts/cognis-search.sh "auth setup" --both

Getting Assembled Context

Fetch relevant context (combines short-term and long-term memory):

bash scripts/cognis-context.sh

This returns assembled context for the current project, including relevant personal and team memories.

When to Use Personal vs Team Scope

  • Personal (default): User preferences, individual notes, personal workflow details, things the user says about themselves.
  • Team (--team): Architecture decisions, deployment processes, coding conventions, shared knowledge that any contributor would benefit from.

Changes

What this file has done since we first saw it

Hashed on every crawl. A supply-chain change to an agent config is a question of when, not whether, so the history is kept rather than the latest state alone.

cognis-skills is a skill published in the GitHub repository Lyzr-Cognis/claude-cognis (20 stars, last pushed 5mo ago), licensed MIT. It adds 107 tokens to every session and 1,004 once invoked, about $0.0005 per session on Opus 5. A static security scan graded it A with 1 finding (makes network calls). No closer match exists in the catalogue, so it is treated as the original; first seen 2026-08-30.
