Getting it into your agent
One page per mod, every tool's command on it. A separate URL per tool would split the same page into five that compete with each other.

Counted locally with the o200k_base tokenizer, which is exact for GPT models; Claude uses its own tokenizer and its counts differ. Treat this as one consistent yardstick across the catalogue rather than a bill. Prices are per million input tokens.
| Model | Per session | Once invoked |
|---|---|---|
| Fable 5.1 | $0.00033 | $0.01335 |
| Opus 5 | $0.00016 | $0.00668 |
| Sonnet 5 | $0.00007 | $0.00267 |
| Haiku 4.5 | $0.00003 | $0.00134 |
Grade A, and why
cost-aware-llm-pipeline scanned grade A with 0 findings against 26 rules in 11 categories — prompt injection, anti-refusal, data exfiltration, privilege escalation, supply chain, agent snooping, system-prompt leakage, SSRF and excessive agency — measured 12d ago.
A static scan of the body, not an audit. Every finding is printed with the line that produced it so you can judge whether it matters here. A mod is markdown that instructs an agent; that is exactly why what it instructs is worth reading.
Nothing flagged
None of the 26 patterns this scan looks for appear in this file: no shell pipes, no recursive deletes, no credential paths, no hidden text, no instruction-override or anti-refusal phrasing, no agent-config snooping. That is not a guarantee, it is the absence of the things that are checkable.
This is a copy
92% identical to cost-aware-llm-pipeline — 26 lines differ, which has more behind it and is treated as the original. This page carries a canonical link to it rather than competing with it.
How it starts
The opening of the file, as written. The whole thing — 184 lines — stays where its author put it; the contents beside it link to each section on GitHub.
Cost-Aware LLM Pipeline
Patterns for controlling LLM API costs while maintaining quality. Combines model routing, budget tracking, retry logic, and prompt caching into a composable pipeline.
When to Activate
- Building applications that call LLM APIs (Claude, GPT, etc.)
- Processing batches of items with varying complexity
- Need to stay within a budget for API spend
- Optimizing cost without sacrificing quality on complex tasks
Core Concepts
1. Model Routing by Task Complexity
Automatically select cheaper models for simple tasks, reserving expensive models for complex ones.
MODEL_SONNET = "claude-sonnet-4-6"
MODEL_HAIKU = "claude-haiku-4-5-20251001"
_SONNET_TEXT_THRESHOLD = 10_000 # chars
_SONNET_ITEM_THRESHOLD = 30 # items
def select_model(
text_length: int,
item_count: int,
force_model: str | None = None,
) -> str:
"""Select model based on task complexity."""
if force_model is not None:
return force_model
if text_length >= _SONNET_TEXT_THRESHOLD or item_count >= _SONNET_ITEM_THRESHOLD:
return MODEL_SONNET # Complex task
return MODEL_HAIKU # Simple task (3-4x cheaper)
2. Immutable Cost Tracking
Track cumulative spend with frozen dataclasses. Each API call returns a new tracker — never mutates state.
from dataclasses import dataclass
@dataclass(frozen=True, slots=True)
class CostRecord:
model: str
input_tokens: int
output_tokens: int
cost_usd: float
@dataclass(frozen=True, slots=True)
class CostTracker:
budget_limit: float = 1.00
records: tuple[CostRecord, ...] = ()
def add(self, record: CostRecord) -> "CostTracker":
"""Return new tracker with added record (never mutates self)."""
return CostTracker(
budget_limit=self.budget_limit,
records=(*self.records, record),
)
@property
def total_cost(self) -> float:
return sum(r.cost_usd for r in self.records)
@property
def over_budget(self) -> bool:
return self.total_cost > self.budget_limit
What this file has done since we first saw it
Hashed on every crawl. A supply-chain change to an agent config is a question of when, not whether, so the history is kept rather than the latest state alone.

cost-aware-llm-pipeline is a skill published in the GitHub repository majiang213/OpenClaw-MAS (5 stars, last pushed 5mo ago), licensed MIT. It adds 33 tokens to every session and 1,335 once invoked, about $0.0002 per session on Opus 5. A static security scan graded it A with 0 findings. It is 92% identical to cost-aware-llm-pipeline, differing in 26 lines, and is treated as a copy.
