data-pipeline-orchestration

data-pipeline-orchestration is a skill for Claude Code, Codex from makifbaysal/tasktrooper. It costs 60 tokens per session (1,526 once invoked), scanned A, original, Apache-2.0.

Guidance for building scheduled data or machine-learning pipelines with tools such as Dagster, Prefect, Airflow, DVC, or cron. It explains how to split work into repeatable stages that can be retried, tested, and run for past data.

In plain words
What is it for?
Use it when adding or changing pipeline stages, retries, partitions, backfills, data checks, or tests. It also helps keep the existing scheduling system instead of adding a second one.
Why use it?
Scheduled jobs may run twice, be retried, or need to rebuild an old period. Without careful design, they can duplicate results, hide failures, or be hard to test without waiting for the scheduler.

Token cost

What it costs to keep this loaded

Counted locally with the o200k_base tokenizer, which is exact for GPT models; Claude uses its own tokenizer and its counts differ. Treat this as one consistent yardstick across the catalogue rather than a bill. Prices are per million input tokens.

ModelPer sessionOnce invoked
Fable 5.1 $0.00060 $0.01526
Opus 5.5 $0.00024 $0.00610
Sonnet 5.5 $0.00012 $0.00305
Haiku 4.5 $0.00006 $0.00153

Security

Grade A, and why

data-pipeline-orchestration scanned grade A with 0 findings against 26 rules in 11 categories — prompt injection, anti-refusal, data exfiltration, privilege escalation, supply chain, agent snooping, system-prompt leakage, SSRF and excessive agency — measured 4d ago.

A static scan of the body, not an audit. Every finding is printed with the line that produced it so you can judge whether it matters here. A mod is markdown that instructs an agent; that is exactly why what it instructs is worth reading.

Nothing flagged

None of the 26 patterns this scan looks for appear in this file: no shell pipes, no recursive deletes, no credential paths, no hidden text, no instruction-override or anti-refusal phrasing, no agent-config snooping. That is not a guarantee, it is the absence of the things that are checkable.

Data Pipeline Orchestration

Overview

A pipeline runs unattended, gets retried, gets backfilled for last March, and runs twice when someone clicks the button twice. Each stage therefore has to produce the same result for the same inputs no matter how often it runs, and fail loudly when its input is wrong.

Core principle: business logic lives in plain, tested functions; the orchestrator layer is a thin wrapper that wires partitions, resources and retries around them.

1. Detect the orchestrator — and keep it

You find It is
@dg.asset, Definitions(...), dagster.yaml, workspace.yaml Dagster (asset-based)
@flow, @task from prefect, prefect.yaml Prefect
dags/ folder, @dag / DAG(...), from airflow Airflow (Airflow 3 imports authoring APIs from airflow.sdk)
dvc.yaml stages DVC pipeline (experiment-tracking-and-reproducibility)
a cron entry or a CI schedule calling a CLI plain entrypoint

Never add a second orchestrator (rule stack-choice). A plain CLI entrypoint called by the existing scheduler is often the right size.

2. Thin orchestration, testable logic

# src/churn/features.py — pure, tested with fixtures
def build_daily_features(orders: pd.DataFrame, day: date) -> pd.DataFrame: ...

# src/churn/orchestration/assets.py — wiring only
import dagster as dg

daily = dg.DailyPartitionsDefinition(start_date="2025-01-01")

@dg.asset(partitions_def=daily)
def daily_features(context: dg.AssetExecutionContext, warehouse: WarehouseResource) -> None:
    day = date.fromisoformat(context.partition_key)
    features = build_daily_features(warehouse.orders_for(day), day)
    warehouse.overwrite_partition("features.daily", day, features)

The asset never computes anything itself; build_daily_features has unit tests that know nothing about Dagster.

3. Idempotency

❌ ✅
INSERT INTO features SELECT ... on every run delete-then-insert the partition in one transaction, MERGE on the key, or INSERT OVERWRITE the partition
df.to_parquet("out/features.parquet", append...) write out/day=2026-10-01/part.parquet to a temp path, then rename
window_end = datetime.now() window from the partition key or the run's data interval
file names with a timestamp of when it ran paths keyed by what the data is for (partition, model version)

What this file has done since we first saw it

Hashed on every crawl. A supply-chain change to an agent config is a question of when, not whether, so the history is kept rather than the latest state alone.

data-pipeline-orchestration is a skill published in the GitHub repository makifbaysal/tasktrooper (113 stars, last pushed yesterday), licensed Apache-2.0. It adds 60 tokens to every session and 1,526 once invoked, about $0.0002 per session on Opus 5.5. A static security scan graded it A with 0 findings. No closer match exists in the catalogue, so it is treated as the original; first seen 2026-10-09.
